I'd say real. Look at the size of that beast! If someone were to fake it it would probably be on a michigan or some other relatively common pattern, not a huge obscure one.

It's got a really heavy patina. If I clean it enough to see I'll let you know.
Agent_H,it's SUCH a neat tool...A very real piece of world's axe history...I'm still getting used to having something This real in the house,i'm considering becoming more of a woodsman that i've been in years,just to get to use it!

I don't have a scale.
Judging by feel it's 5 lbs. I can't feel much difference between it and my 5lb Jersey. It is much better balanced though.

Once you sharpen that router iron up you will love using that 71! It will become your favorite tool to use. I don’t use mine that often but any chance I get I do! Nice find!!
