Pegs, I have tried a arm load of draw knifes in varius shapes and sizes. I am sure that the wood you work and personal preference plays a part, but for me I like a straight blade with some meat to it. My favorite is a old Greenlee. Very similar to rwn2000's draw knife. Mostly use it bevel side down.

The Tuatahi markings did not show in the pictures.Got the flitedge from a guy said he had another axe at home he would bring turned out to be the Tuatahi work axe.
The other d/b has no marking but has the groves in eye maybe a t/t?Bull Mountain Custom

Great scores, Moose Creek! The Flint Edge still has most of it's factory paint and the Tuatahi looks like it's never been sharpened. The 2nd DB looks like it still has some life left in it, too. What is it?

I had some major good fortune today! I bought these from a guy off craigslist.
The pulaski's are TT Kelly "World's Finest," the cruiser is a Keen Kutter, and the single bit is a Kelly A&T, plus a froe. Get this...turns out the guy has been a smoke jumper for like 25 years. Has hordes of old tools. He filed cross cuts for years. He's got 7 or 8 cross cut saws. He's going to go through them and sell half so he'll be giving me a call. He also said he'll show me some stuff on filing too! Anyway, made an awesome contact!!
ETA: He gave me the Marshall Wells Hand Made. I'll see if my brother can weld up that big crack.

Too legit to quit!
Although it PALES in comparison to its cousins from New Zealand, I finally got my hands on a larger Collins Legitimus. This once comes in just under 4 pounds.
Has a pretty good stamp.
But what really tickles me is the edge geometry. This one was made to cut!

That's a fine axe. Typical of vintage American axes it has that high center line which helps it throw chips and stay unstuck.
You got a real pretty lady there. Treat her right.

I was checking the local antique store for some axes. A couple weeks ago the owner told me he had a guy bringing some axes down in a week to 10 days so I figured I would drop by today. The guy with the axes never stopped by but I did find this and for $17.00 plus tax it followed me home.
Wonder what else I will find in the eye other than the 16d galvi nail, phillips head screw and metal wedge?
I know I should re-haft it with hickory but I don't have any and don't want to buy any. I was thinking cherry would look cool but not sure that it would be durable enough and am a little worried about what cherry will want to do after I shape it. I have hard rock maple again but was thinking of going with beech for this one. Purple heart maple would be really fun but that stuff is heavy and might throw off the balance?
The resto line is forming...WIP thread will be started when this one gets off the ground.

Why not re-use the existing handle? There's plenty of good wood left above the shoulder for a re-hang. That handle has a nice shape and lots of life left in it.
