I will pull that head out and take another look at it to be sure. However, I do not believe it is laminated. I think the hardened steel has simply weathered less than the rest of the steel. Like I said, I will dig this one out for another look.

Got a Plumb Puget Sound (i think) and an unmarked carpenter's hatchet last weekend.

wire brushed and hit with PB blaster. Edge chipped pretty bad but I can fix that.

no name on this one. Eye is more like an ball pien hammer than a hatchet.

Cleaned up and ready for handles. I have an AMES double bit handle but it won't fit; the PS will almost slide past the shoulder. Will have to order one, I think.
2 patch knife blanks roughed out.

That carpenters hatchet looks like something a blacksmith made out of an old ball peen hammer. Very cool. That's a keeper.

Looks like you got that Plumb Puget Sound cleaned up and sharpened very well.

If you need a fat double bit handle with a wide shoulder then look to Tennessee Hickory. I just finished hanging a PS on a Tennessee Hickory handle this afternoon. That thing was like a bat!!!! Between octagoning the handle, fitting the eye and trimming down the massive shoulders I'll bet I reduced the weight of that thing by 25%.

Pegs, I probably paid too much for the hatchet ($30) but I thought it was pretty unique.

I bought a couple of 36" octagon DB's from them awhile back and they are nice.

Found a new source for old axes locally today. Yeah.

$20 for the lot.

Collins Old Timer Legitimus:

Collins & Co. Legitimus 2 1/4# axe.

Not sure what this is. No markings as yet.

And then I picked this up for a little more. So sweet. My first Keen Kutter.

Sweet handle on that keen kutter. Some of the old timers made them like that. Heard them called Maine pattern, Vermont pattern and French pattern before.

Picked up a DB with no stamp today and a True Temper Red Warrior Kelly Works axe, drawknife and chisel yesterday.

I think the handle on the Red Warrior is salvageable but not the DB.

That drawknife looks like a Witherby ive got. Any markings on it?

No markings that I can see on the drawknife. the handles are a lighter wood like beech or something and painted a dark brown. The guy had 3 drawknives and I picked this one since it had the straightest edge. I know this thing is HARD, a file barely touched it.

Some of them are convexly curved intentionally. Wear hollows out the center (concavely). I haven't found any advantage between straight versus convexly curved drawknife blades. In either case I tend to draw them at an angle so that I'm slicing not just chiselling the wood.

Couldn't resist these - as if I need more stuff.

Keen Kutter I cleaned up - Mikey Likey

Old C Hammond little hewing hatchet - I put the puck in there for reference - its not very big -

And then this Collin Legitimus bowie/machete - it needs some TLC, and a sharpening job - that will be this winter sometime - and a sheath too, but it has potential.

Cleaned up a little - hatchet handle for size reference -

I'm currently in MA, which is not ME in terms of old axes, but still alot better than Korea

I have this unmarked Jersey pattern at 4 lbs 4 oz. as well as a couple of lighter Kelly Perfect Jerseys. This unmarked one will be the next one I hang.
