It is a very nice Axe and it is one of 16 mint Walters that I happened into, an unbelievable score.
I can only hope and dream to find another haul like this again in my life time.

I had to share this with people who would truly appreciate.

HOLY CRAP!!! Did you have to take out a loan to pay for these? Unbelievable.

Last week I received an awesome care package from MooseCreekTrails. It included a True Temper pulaski with leather sheath along with a copy of the Forest Service publication 'An Ax to Grind' and 'The Crosscut Sawyer' video.

I picked up a Tennessee Hickory handle for the pulaski today and hope to have it singing again soon.

I really like the sheath. It has 'TRAILS' stamped on it.

The Pulaski is stamped 'True Temper' and 3^3 - I'm guessing 3-1/3 pounds.

I need to get it hung this weekend as I have a new trails project starting up next week.

This is a pair of 3-1/2 pound single bits that came in the deal for that last broad axe I scored on the 'bay.

They're both decent functional axes though a bit pitted and rusty. The cheeks have the high centerlines of a classic American style axe. The bits show moderate wear and the polls are clean.

The one of the right is a vintage Craftsman oval stamp. I have not been able to find the dates for this stamp but I think it's 1950's or earlier.

The one on the left has no visible maker's mark. Maybe I'll find something when I clean it up. What's interesting about this axe is how deep the bevels in the cheeks are.

Axes_3.jpg

The bevels on the upper edge of the axe have pinched the blade almost down to nothing. The eye walls are also quite thin and the poll is substantial.

Looks to me like it says "FS Trails", as in Forest Service Trail Crew. Every Forest Service tool shed I ever visited had a dozen or so tools with their handle sawn off, waiting for re-hafting. It's rare to see them for sale, though. Glad it found a new home.

It wasn't sold it was free (I won't sell them). The head was one fire crew threw out(must be under size limit?) still lots of life left. Found the sheath in the same dumpster. We don't use Pulaski much, more pick mattocks and axes, so I hope it gets put to work. Also the manuals are free at Mtdc call them and they will send them out if in stock. For those interested in crosscut filing the new dvd with W Miller is out, I think they still have some left at mtdc

OMG, I won something sharp on the 'bay!
*squeee*
pix next week.
(Nothing super special, but I hadn't used the 'bay in so long that I had to re-register my ID. That's the real excitement)

Couple recent acquires - Sager chemical puget 1945, Sager jersey, and Wm Beatty and son sb beast, appears to be a wedge pattern.

I don't know what the 'C9' signifies.. But if it's FSS then it's probably a good tool. Congrats. And post a pic when you can.

The C9 can mean a couple different things and also help to perhaps date the piece. First question us, where is the C9 located on the axe?
