Hookaroon, pickaroon, sappie, zappie my spell check likes not-a-one-of-'em but that doesn't matter, I love to see them and if I had it my way every axe sold would come with government mandate that a picaroon was required.

Here is a couple more I picked up. Got the plumb at a garage sale yesterday $5 and the double is true temper flint edge Kelly works I picked up a few weeks ago at the flea market. The Kelly works has the original handle also. I'm re finishing it as we speak. Pretty beat up but I'm fixing it up w some carpenters glue and saw dust. What pattern would the plumb be? Is it a Dayton? I'm still pretty new to all this and learning. The plumb also has the handle perms bonded, the red filled in eye etc. when did they start this and how long did they do it for? I'd like to be able to determine the approximately age of my axes and any info would be great, thanks guys :)

Nice finds Mike.

You will like both of those axes. I'm thinking the Plumb is a Hoosier pattern. I haven't seen too many of them. I think they have a pretty short poll, so you need pretty good hand control to strike accurately. You should be able to get it moving really fast though. I have a Flint Edge DB. It's one of my favorite axes. The one you got looks like it's barely been used. I prefer Western patterns, but your Michigan is a beauty. Please post some photos when you hang it.

I'm not sure where you live. I'm in N. Idaho. We don't' have enough garage sales or flea markets.

Here's today's finds. I picked up the chopper and the genuine norlund at the flea market 7$ for the norlund and 14 for the chopper...

Then when I got back home I remembered I was supposed to go pick up an old wooden duck sign for my dad at a near bye garage sale. He collects decoys and I thought it would look nice w his display. And I decided to stop bye the house that I picked up the plumb on Friday at. He had some old cleaver I was thinking about buying. Well when I went back I noticed a little carpenter hatchet hanging on the wall in his garage. I didn't notice it the first time I was there and out if the corner of my eye a little hatchet handle caught my attention on a shelf low and behold it was another norlund like I just picked up at the market but smaller! Score! I paid ten for the pair. The carpenter hatchet is marked GTW. My dad seems to think its grand trunk western. No makers mark that I can see though. I have to say. Today was a good day.

Oh p.s. Bbforstr I live in michigan there are usually no shortage of axes at the market I live bye. I've been pretty lucky so far.

Yeah it don't look like it was used much if at all. I might put it on the bay along with one of the norlunds. I just started collecting axes so it's hard for me to let go of anything especially when bought at a good price, but I'm sure with time and more and more axes filling up the house I'll have to let some go.

I'd probably put both of the Norlunds up for sale. They're fine axes but they fetch a price above what many superior axes fetch. So I just sell them and use the money to buy better ones.

Man Mike. You scored good this weekend. I hit the thrift store but there was nothing new since the last time I was in there. A couple of no-name axe heads and some beat up old tools. Nothing like you're finding. Good eye.

Another lackluster weekend for me just this Walters boys axe on a way to long haft. Tag was marked $15, guy said I could have it for ten as soon as I picked it up.

No midland is quite a drive from here. I stitch to local flea markets and garage sales for the most part. It's all country farms and dirt roads where I live for the most part. Me and my brother are thinking if driving around to houses with old farm buildings and asking around for old axes. I bet we find a bunch like that.

Picked these up last week. The big one is a Stiletto with P.G.E. stamped on the back. I was told it was used when they were building "the dams". I couldn't find a mark on the smaller double bit and the hatchet says "BAKER hand made" on it. Full size photos are on flicker in my It followed me home set.

well that helped me make up my mind, found a cheep sooline pickaroon for sale this weekend and couldn't resist getting this DB Zenith axe and a pulaski that i didn't see any stamps on but had a prefect handle.

Three good pieces. The Zenith looks to be hung upside down. I think I read that many of Marshall-Wells 'Zenith' axes were made by Welland Vale. Should be a top shelf axe.
