It's On Like Donkey Kong

Guyon and Moose...

Cobra, I hope you are saying you are going to start eating butter instead of margarine. Anything else is just baaaaad.

Well, I hit the gym today. Figured out during some warmups that I am still not 100% after being sick, but did OK. Worked up to a set of medium intensity squats, a medium and a heavy set of bench, and some abs. It should get my metabolism kicked up a notch for a day or so... help burn off the lasagna :D.

Ended up w/ some leftovers for lunch...

What do you squat on medium days?

I can't talk about it. I have a hard enough time not just posting every 5 mins in a Becker/Diet thread, nobody would ever look at it again if it became a Becker/Diet/Lifting thread. There used to be a fitness thread in WS&S I would post in, but they didn't talk about Beckers and Diet there, so it didn't suck me in quite so bad... :D

Haha, fair enough.

Somewhere good! Even if nobody ends up a Mr. Universe, they will still be 100 times farther along then sitting on the couch watching infomercials and washing down Little Debbie cakes w/ diet soda... :barf::D

:thumbup: Only bad thing about butter is that it isn't its own food group.:p

I thought this was just going to be a smack talking thread between moose and guyon. Hell if I would have known that most of you were going to be in on this I would have jumped in a while ago. I actually joined weight watchers about 4 weeks ago and I have lost 7 lbs so far; 4 last week which is about 2 pounds too much for one week. But hell I'm in on this also. I'm at about 277/6 right now, 6'3.5" my ultimate goal it to get back down below 220. I'll get there but if I don't take it slow it will come right back, and then some.

Guys it's not about dieting to loose a few pounds now. It's a lifestyle change that you need to take seriously. If you don't it will come back with friends. If you want I will post up some weight watcher stuff for you all to see and use.

You don't need to starve yourself either. For breakfast every morning I have an english muffin with a slice of american cheese and hard salami, and an egg over hard if I have time before I leave. In weight watchers points that 7 points. I should be having around 10-12 for breakfast. Lunch consists of a large salad, and dinner is whatever the wife makes.

Like Flexxx has been saying protein is your friend but not a lot. 6oz a DAY not each meal. Fill up on fiber and you won't even be hungry, but you should graze on healthy snacks between meals if you do feel hungry. I like baby carrots, almonds, and apples. Really its all about portion control and changing the way you eat forever, not just the next few months.

I'm glad you are doing this. I was really in need of support from people. You guys rock! This place just keeps getting better all the time

Thank you.

Yesterday

Lunch: three pieces of Pizza Hut super thin crust medium supreme pizza, two breadstick, and I felt bloated and full until really late last night. Used to I could eat 6 pieces of large regular crust no problem. Glad to see the stomach has done some shrinking, but calories wise, I probably went over what I wanted. Oh well, it was good, and I am not doing this to deprive myself.

Dinner: three small-ish soft tacos, comprised of flour tortillas, about 9 tablespoons of taco meat, maybe 3 teaspoons of shredded colby and monterey jack, and a butt load of salsa. Old el paso style. I don't know how many calories there either, but I don't care, cause I love tacos.

Today

Breakfast: Cream of Wheat, 2 servings, with a teaspoon of margarine, and a tablespoon of sugar, something like 330 calories if my math is right. And a banana.

I feel good. Feel really good. Eating better has helped tremendously, and even if I don't end up losing a ton of weight, I am still glad to be eating a little better. I think yesterday I stuck to my 3 quart limit on sweet tea, so about another 360 calories there out of that, so all in all, I am doing pretty well. Today I will probably take it easy on the calories though to help balance out yesterday. More computers to haul as well, so I should be able to burn off a little of that extra fat I picked up yesterday.

Good luck guys, and hang in there. Just gotta get to that two week point so it can be habit.

The trans fat in margarine is worse for you than regular butter. Don't fall for that one. Don't worry fellas the sharp thing I found is a Becker.

I like the taste of Country Crock better.

Do you guys realize this thread is on page 2 in less than 12hrs? Way to go Beckerheads... that means we are starting to get quite a bit more going on in here!

Anyway, didn't skip any meals, still doing my thing. Feel like I was run over by a small car, but can't tell if that is from my workout or because I am not as 'not sick' as I thought.

Dinner was cod and shrimp chowder.

I have been reading a bunch on Lyle McDonalds website. He does a nice job of explaining what our body does in fairly simple terms, and keeps from being dogmatic about the things he explains. http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/

Hitting a trail tomorrow.
Moose and I may be contacting Lynn Thompson to see if he wants in.
He seems a little winded in some of his latest pork cutting videos.

what's with all these diet talk? i just checked and i lost 2 lbs in january, close to 30 lbs total now since last summer (i'm now 177 lbs). just been biking and hiking a lot since i joined here. i still eat and drink as much as i want really.

...another reason not to spend all that money on ultra-light, all-titanium stuff! weight builds muscles and muscles burn off calories.

good stuff, man! pound for pound, there's a lot more beckerheads actually hiking than the esee forum lately  i'm not drunk enough to stir up shiit over there yet. haha.

Today

Lunch: cafeteria school lunch chili. Thanks to the efforts of Morgan Spurlock (who is a pretty nice guy in person) our school food is a million times worse than it was when I was a kid, but way healthier. Anyways, chili, with several wheat crackers. The crackers were actually pretty good. Like a captains wafer, but with the taste of a wheat thin.

Dinner: I splurged since I have been doing much better this week, so I went and got (and this is still hard for me to accept since it contained no beef) orange roughy with steamed veggies and a salad.

I snagged a single piece of pizza somewhere in the day cause I was starving, and a few (4) small cookies at one point, but did manage to get a good bit of water down, and am at 2.5 quarts of my homemade sweet tea.

Let's hope I can stick to my guns this weekend.

Best way to lose 10lb off your bike is to shave it from your seat!
I can't wait 'til 2-wheel season starts again.

Ok, ok, I'll do a couple sets before bed. I've been slacking bad. You guys are good motivators.

Tea is good. Green tea is better - just a spoonful of raw honey.

And yogurt the morning after the ol' bourbon.
The real kind with some proper fat in it, not the unbalanced crap.
I LOVE a good crisp apple and some whole milk plain yogurt. mmmm.
You need the fat to carry those vitamins!

yar, two wheels. i rebuilt my Sugar2 mtn bike front shocks. quite the ordeal - might have to do the rears if they don't hold - a PAIN - but full floating suspenion kicks butt. i'm hoping i can get more years out of it, worst case, buying a new front quality fork if it dies... OTHERwise, i'm going to have to unst unst unst rock one of those 29 inch monsters, with disc brakes, and 9 inches of badassery and other dreamy goodness.

what's with this low and no fat stuff? i know i know! the FAT they took out? yeah, you need that in your diet to some extent, but THEY need it more. it's worth MORE than the food you bought! they really don't want to sell it to you... as a raw product, it can be made into oils, fuels, plastics, and STUFF... why should they give it away? man.

sometimes it's SO HARD to find full fat yogurts. go go Stonyfield though. yay!

seriously, when they take the fat out of some things, they have to replace it with something you will eat, and it's probably bad for you, cheap, lacking nutrition, and yet you pay for the privilege! nice!

"eat real food!" :) real food grows, it lives, it dies, and it can rot. there is so much actual nutrition in real food, that you don't have to take supplements, vitamins, or extras (unless you have serious issues)...

yar. apples. raw yogurt. almonds. sesame seeds. yum

Well... how are things going? I hope well for everyone.

If it helps, I have been downing carrot cake w/ cream cheese frosting all day yesterday... :D It isn't as bad as it sounds, it was sweetened w/ pineapple and honey, so it actually wasn't bad.

Here is a quicky wall of text for those that are getting tired of their diet, like I am, or are stalled a bit, like I am.

The deal is that our body doesn't lose weight linearly. It usually comes in increments, with nothing seeming to happen in between. Some refer to these as wooshes and stalls. They aren't really a signal that you are doing things wrong, it is just that when we do thing right, we seem to lose by jerks, rather than smoothly. If what you have been doing is working, it will probably continue to.

I have noticed that if I have been stalled for a bit that often I will do better after eating more than usual for a day or two. For me, it was after something happened, like eating dessert for a couple days, or blowing my diet off on the weekend. A couple days later, I would burn the extra weight off, and then start losing again. It turns out that many of the better diets have this built in with the use of a cheat day.

So, if you are stalled a bit,(like me) don't sweat it, and if you blew off your diet for a day or so,(like me) don't sweat it, and if you have been doing really well for at least a week and are dieing for some other foods, go ahead and have them for a day. (Just don't go waaaay overboard, you still have to get rid of everything you eat, but go ahead and have a 3K calorie day. Make sure though that it is a single day.) Our bodies tend to work on the cycle, or surge, in many ways, and dieting is no different.

So, keep at it! And have fun!

I'm doing good, my food intake has been up and down, but over all I feel less full all the time now, and I can breath and tie my shoes. Is that progress?

Moose
