After working for a true @$$hole for 5 years, not working there is a blessing.. he was the kind of guy that seeks out conflict because he just plain gets off on it.. I worked there to support my wife getting her degree, it paid very well, but it was an abusive work enviroment.. for 3 years I told them I was quitting as soon as my wife graduated and they would laugh like I was joking.. well, I quit the day she got hired after graduation. I enjoyed the work, but got tired of being treated like trash. After wandering around for a couple years (and burning up my non-compete agreement) I got hired at the present place.. great company, very generous and the only place I have ever worked that said "get what you need" and meant it.. I also work part time for a large corporation, but my boss there is one of the nicest, thoughtful people on the planet and I only work there because she does.. when/if she leaves I will most likely quit too.
All in all, I am very happy where I work, I get good benefits and good pay and no one is breathing down my neck... some days it's not all chocolate and bacon, but most days it is pretty sweet.. :)

yeah, i could use a whole lot of that...

what's funny, when i mumble about updating my resume or having agencies contact me, they respond by renewing my contract.

oddly, the guy most vocal about keeping me, is the same guy i'm having the most trouble with lately. i hope to work it out, getting a new job is a hassle, and they're likely to WANT to keep me, rather than me hustling.

but yeah, quitting in the face of people who laugh at you feels great. esp when they really needed you, but treated you like shit.

When I sent my "I'm quitting" letter, my manager (who's bonus was tied to my output) called me to make sure I was going to "finish the month out on a strong note..you know, just go out with a bang, man!"
I was laughing so hard he just hung up.. that felt..really nice.

Hope it works out for you Bladite, having a problem person at works really sucks.. I have had to deal with it more than once.

definitely better if they treat you like they want you to stay ALL the time...

That's vaguely similar to what happened to me in my last job. Although my immediate bosses were always quite decent, the company as a whole treated me and my ilk (which is also your ilk!) as expenses they'd rather not carry... Very unpleasant, and things got worse and worse for software engineers. So I quit to "become an oceanographer" in the words of my boss. He called HIS boss immediately who said "can you throw money at the problem?". Too late, I'd already decided, not turning back. Not after 8 years. They should have been throwing the money "at the problem" for years already. Knowing they COULD have been treating you better, at least comp-wise, is almost a second-order GFY on the last day. Oh well. People started streaming out after me. :D

I feel so alone, I like Coke better than Pepsi.
Im coke all the way. If you look back near the start of this thread I posted a pretty cool coke poster.

I've only had one "impressive quitting" and even still on the order of magnitude it was maybe a 2. I did get fired once and acted like a young idiot.

Coke used to be my drink of choice. Then it started tasting different to me. I like Pepsi now, but still like Coke out of a fountain.

Dr Pepper is where it's really at. The real stuff..from Texas.

Thanks Lee, now I have weird stuff in my "recommended items".

mr pibb baby

yeah. work stuff and interactions. i try very hard to keep them distant and dispassionate - after all - it's just a job - not my life and they aren't necessarily my friends

still, they can get under your skin ;)

i've left various gigs in various states of amusing undress. usually on good terms, but a complete surprise to the ninny that "let us all go"

so, imagine you are the penny pincher, and you magically and by surprise, decide to cancel the contracts of 100 consultants, without telling their managers, groups, and so on...

imagine the kerfluffle when "key members" of the team have a day (or less) and at best a couple days, to wrap up projects and so on that have been months or years in the planning, and should ideally have months or years left

oh my yes.

so, even on a smaller scale, the busybody ninny that let's the key guy go, with a week's notice, FORGOT to make sure that everything was secure before that person left. as in "make sure to get a full and current copy of the work, notes, drafts..."

because, "oh yeah, the consultant was working remotely, on his own computer, and you went and fired him not for cause, but because of budget, and now he OWNS OUR PROJECT, so cough up 4 weeks severance so we can get it back"...

cough

and then get rehired anyway ;D

these idiots just end up costing the company more money in the long run...

Nate, don't act like it's Lee's fault. If you didn't have the sybian, and that furry sheep suit open in the other tabs it wouldn't have been so bad!

hopefully this isn't deal spotting.. I am looking to add one of THESE (click here) to my BoB.. It would be usefull for any number of situations...

Hey, that's good thinkin'. If you're ever at a clown convention, you could sneak in or out undetected. (Hey, it could happen.)

If I'm gonna drink a 150cal beverage after my morning OJ it's gonna be a beer. Just sayin'.

Too lazy to take pictures right now, but i just got in my Buck Vantage Pro and its great!! The flipper works great for me. The pocket clip is not uncomfortable to me like on most folders. I loved the Manix2 but the pocket clip was uncomfortable when you really grip up on the knife. No matter how i grip the Vantage it doesnt bite into my hand! I do miss the finger choil area from the manix 2 though. I know a lot of people dont care for choils but i like having my finger up on the blade while doing detailed work. I like the grind on this Vantage and its really sharp. This is a great folder!!

I have had one in the cart multiple times, but never pulled the trigger.. It is a nice looking knife. Still want a Native 5 and Ritter mini-grip too..

I am going to have to agree with the Dr. Pepper group... BUT if they only sold whiskey in 12 pack cans... :D a man can dream.
