Its Snark Is Worse Than Its Bite ... CHAT

What are ya having issues with? rattle? tip movement? The BK16 is a easy knife to start with.....kinda lends itself to the taco, all the Tweeners do.

Nope, for some reason the fold portion didn't get flattened out as much as I thought it would. I think maybe I just didn't get it clamped fast enough. Need to rework my press a little and try again.

Is the 2x48 what you use on all your knives to shape them and what not?

I just got it, and ground out a wakizashi with it so far. Prior to that, I was using a Rikon 1x30. The 2x48 has a nice big platen for flat grinding, but there's still a decent amount of slack belt area to use. It's just a pretty fast grinder, even with the 1/3hp motor, so you really have to be careful with heat.

I only mention it because you seem like the type who would really enjoy making your own blades.

I've got a 4x36 Portercable bench grinder that has been doing a pretty good job. The downside is it's at my parents house while I'm living in an apartment away at college. The one thing I don't like about it is there is almost no area where the belt can be used without any solid backing (lax I think is the right term). Just a small area between the contact wheel and where the man flat working surface is. Is the 2x48 what you use on all your knives to shape them and what not?

grinding knives to shape ("profiling") is best done against a rubber contact wheel. A "slack" belt is used for convexing an edge or otherwise shaping a shallow radius. It's lousy for profiling. The hard flat surface behind your belt is the "platen".

Decided to make an accessory for my knives this weekend.
Behold, the scrap wood cutting board!:

White oak and mahogany. The underside is un-flat and rough (though oiled also). Just messin' around, but I like.
Can you tell how dull my bandsaw blade is from cutting G10? yeesh. At least burnished end grain doesn't absorb moisture.

Yep, that G10 sure does a number on bandsaw blades. Mine is horribly dull too. I actually ended up just using the angle grinder to do a rough cutout on the G10 I've been using. Love that angle grinder...

the bf took this pic of me tonight... this is what normal people do on Saturday nights right?? :P

scraping that bunny fur from beckerwest that was in my freezer all this time. bk13 worked well. 1.5 hours later I got it all clean and nice, yeah, I"m slow.

Oh absolutely. I really want to try making a "real knife" I've played with grinding some scrap steel I had laying around and it is really fun. Hopefully before the end of summer I'll make one from start to finish.

Getting ready to go out for 5 hour off road drive. We're meeting some folks 2.5 hours north of here and then hitting the trail. Excited.

That's a great pic Capn. I think "Scraping the bunny on Saturday night" is a song that needs to be written. I'm on it.

Hope everyone has a great Father's Day. We will be having a little beer and burger shindig with the kids later.

Bunny fur should never go to waste! Good job.

I don't know about 'normal'. On friday nights I'd MUCH rather be at Rock'n'Roll Knife & Tool than out "partying", or whatever kids call it these days.

I use those re-enforced dremel cut off wheels for G-10 and micarta now after I got sick of the hacksaw. Works well enough and not so much of a PITA. I suppose the angle grinder is just a roided up cut off wheel though.

Heading off to Boyscout camp wont be around much this week. Picked a few of my thornless blackberries they are just starting to rippen and they are huge. Good thing because its getting hard to find strawberries :)

Pretty much, yep. Goes through it like butter, pretty much, especially compared to the steel it usually has to cut.
