Izula factory edge?

I usually just feel of a knife with my fingers. I can feel if there's a bad spot pretty quick.

Does anyone use the paper slice method to test sharpness, or is that a method?

I do and the RCs should be able to make great little curls and send paper strips flying. You should also be able to easily push cut.

I think a more accurate test is the thumbnail or pen test - keep the knife at around a 15* or 20* angle or so perpendicular to your fingernail or a pen shaft and push the blade forward - if the edge bites in and doesnt slide/slip you are good to go.

I shave my arm hair to test also, but I do that too often I look like I have scabies or something.

Also, no worries - I dont think anyone thought you were bashing RAT - its just that saying a knife came with a nearly unusable edge is a pretty BIG statement that attracts attention especially when in such a devoted sub-forum

My black Izula that I got right when they first came out, was SHARP.

My pink one that I got a week or two ago came maybe the sharpest of any factory edge i have seen.

All of my RATs have come sharp enough to shave hair without much effort.

Mine honestly will not even slice paper, like at all.

I will. It's just that my other knifes slice paper rather easily. So I would assume that it's a decent method to test sharpness. I will cut some para cord with all them and report back.

Nickanto,

Dude I got your email but I have to have a shipping address to send your new Izula to.;)

And don't give up on your old one. I thought you were having someone sharpen it per your first email. I'm sort of confused, amigo.

Jeff

If you want to ship that bad Izula to us we'll sharpen it and send it back to you.

Out of all my knives, the Izula took the most effort to cut through para cord.

First thing I cut with my Izula was paracord, like butter.. You got a one of a kind there bud! You should be stoked.. j/k ;)

@ Jeff - You guys are awesome!

I have never owned a RAT Cutlery knife but i have been doing allot of research and looking for a great knife over the last 2 months and i have found the company that i will be buying my knives from. Jeff Randall your knives look great and from reading this post, your customer service is A+. I hope to be buying my first RAT Cutlery knife really soon when finances look a little better. In fact my 2 knives of choice are the RC6 and the RC3. Good job with everything man.

Well, if I bought a knife that was dull and I couldn't sharpen it, then I would hope the company would take care of the issue. It's just the way we work....and always have.

I was nervous giving my rookie wife the pink Izula I got her as a gift. It was sharper than any knife I had ever gotten from any factory.
