Izula factory edge?

I bought a used Izula. Owner said he used it a bit and didn't touch up the edge.

It came to me in 'usable' shape, but not what I would consider sharp.

Less than 3 minutes on the Sharpmaker and it was literally splitting hairs off my arm without any pressure. I love a good 1095 knife, and Rowen does it best!

It dressed an entire deer, cutting through some bone and all, and still shaved. Another 5 passes on the white stones and it was back to hair popping sharp. This knife is awesome!

......I mean.......Mine sucks! Can I have a free one? :D

When I got mine it was super sharp. I will probably never get it that sharp again myself.

I'm in the same boat. I will never be able to get it factory sharp again but I can get it to perform better by convexing the edge. My convex looks bad but seems to cut better than the original bevel.

I post this up from time to time but here is the link to Willey Knives.
http://www.willeyknives.com/sharpening.html They do a good job sharpening and it is reasonable. If your knife just needs maintainence from use you might want to check with them. They are great folks to deal with and a small family owned business. Mike

What can a do to get a better grind, bevel, edge? That machine really screwed it up. It's hard to sharpen the belly. It's thin then it's really thick at the belly and edge. It's hard to get the proper angle.

(My wifes mother is visiting from wisconsin and we are watching a close game while drinking pretty steadily so... I can blame this post on that.)

With the smell of blood in the water, your past few posts read like you are fishing for a handout brother.

In all honesty, I already sent Jeff a private e-mail. I'm not trying to fish for a new knife. I'm not trying to receive a handout. I honestly wanted advice because I DON'T want to get a new knife if it isn't necessary. (I don't want to spend any more money on sharpeners. I can't really use the search function as I am not a paying member yet. I wanted to ask in this thread since many of you are Izula owners.) It's just really hard to sharpen when I'm a novice sharpener and there aren't any reputable sharpening services in my local area. I bought the Izula because of RAT's excellent warranty and stories of their excellent customer service. I read and watched many excellent reviews online. I was REALLY hyped to get razor sharp knife with good edge retention. However, MINE didn't come razor sharp. Yes, I took it into my own hands to try to fix it. Don't I deserve credit for trying to initially save the company money? I've dealt with a custom kydex dealer on this forum. (He accidentally ground too much out of the sheath. I tried to fix it {with some excellent tips and advice from him} but it didn't work out. So he sent me a new one.) I really appreciated his quick responses and outstanding attitude.

I figured this thread would be a good outlet in order to get help. I wouldn't go through so much trouble just to swindle a great company out of a knife. I want to see RAT stick around, so that I can buy MORE products. Does any one really think I would put this much energy into it if I was being dishonest?

Anyway. Stay safe and have a good night.

-Emmanuel

EDIT: Thanks for the tip Mike.

@emman714 - apologies for calling you out bud - it was wrong of me and uncalled for. Best of luck with getting your Izula back in slicing order!!!

(on an aside: GO PACKERS - woohoo - just broke out the cheese curds :D)

It's okay TrailWolf. I know it's hard to distinguish between honest and shady individuals these days, especially on this vast interspace.(No hard feelings...really.) Which is why I came here! (Specifically the RAT forums) You guys seem knowledgeable and respectful. I'm hoping to increase the amount of RAT knives I own and continue my participation on the forum. I guess my "razor-sharp-Izula" envy drove me to inquire on this thread and send Jeff an email.

Sorry everyone, didn't mean to put on a show.

Emmanuel,

No need to apologize for your post. As I told you in the email we will be happy to re-sharpen your knife for you since it was dull from the factory. Not doubting you, dude ;)But I need to know what you want to do and also I will need to give you an address to send it to. Please respond to my email when you get time.

Thanks,

Jeff

My izzy came fairly sharp, and my rc3's mind-blowingly sharp. I use a sharpmaker to keep them in shape, and it's truely idiot proof.

My Izula was very sharp, too, except perhaps an inch nearest to the handle. But that was easily fixed in a few minutes on a strop using green compound.

Man you gota love how rat stands behind there knives! to get email directly saying they will resharpen it for you! just one more reason we love rat.

Emmanuel, I have sent you another email with Rowen's address. I also copied Shon and Mike on the email. Please advise if you got it.
