Normally I would say “strip it,” but that color combo looks perfect, to me; so I voted ‘nay’.

Depends.

If you go ahead and strip in, the decarb finish will be 100% intact and you can just leave that on and not polish it.

If you use it, then the coating will put pressure on the decarb finish and will take some of it off or push it. If you decide to strip it then, then part of the blade will be shiney and part of it will have decarb. You have to polish the whole blade if that happens, but that is if you don't like two tone finishes.

It depends what you're comfortable/happy with.

Well I think Jack's fate is sealed. I too love the look of naked Infi and I don't have the patience to use it until the coating is worn. At some point on Sunday I'll strip it and get some initial photos for anyone interested. Thanks for the opinions guys.

The great thing about the black crinkle coat is, with gel stripper, is that it pops right off after 5 minutes, even less sometimes.

Good luck, I look forward to seeing it.

Ah, you did not read my pole question sir. Those two uses you mentioned will be its primary job. Please cast your vote. :D

Yup, I missed the last word, but that didn't tell me what the intended uses were. :p So now that you have confirmed them I have voted to match my earlier post. ;)

:thumbdn: to the coating.

The patient is prepped for surgery.

what do you use to strip it, and how do you sand, wood block, hand?, and what grits sandpaper? I say strip it, as I have a similar job to do if I can figure out how

I use a spray can of Kleen Strip and simple 5" diameter sanding disks that go in a hand drill. There's a foam backing and the paper is adhesive. I start with 100 or 200 and go up to about 600 or 800. I'm happy with the shine that method gives me. They're just users. Sometimes while Im watching tv I hit em again with foam sanding blocks that go up to 1000 grit and higher. They get pretty shiny. I posted my stripped RMD a while ago.

HO LEE COW!!! I just scraped the stripper and coating off the first side... I think Busse is just coating SE blanks and callin em CG. This bad boy is shiny! Shiniest i've seen prior to sanding. Ooooooo! Stand by for pics.
