I don't know where you guys are getting that people are shitting on the knife. Is it just a generic fan boy response to a problem with the coveted sebenza?

I see nothing in this thread that could be considered bashing, so what is the motive for your comment?
I wasn't implying you were shitting on the knife or anything close...I believe it was someone else's distain from Chris Reeves response that I was referring to.....and I made my comment neither for or against either point of view...just to serve as devils advocate for those, as previously mentioned, who are quick to say for X amount of dollars he should kiss my ass/make perfect things/offer limitless warranty/ etc......I find in reading a lot of posts and opinions that people seem to take comments, etc without putting them into the context of the bigger picture. If I spent over 20 years of my time pouring my blood sweat and tears into a knife and you called with a "problem", whether right or wrong, I know I would have a hard time NOT being standoffish, unbelieving, or thinking that somehow your had done something strange......all I was getting at, is that it is a HUMAN reaction. And when you start asking for non-human reactions...well, that sir, is the first sign the machines are taking over...,and I'm sure you saw what happens in Terminator! ;)

Everyone just relax. CTS was only doing a normal cut test and we got this abnormal suprise so he certainly wasnt bashing CRK. He didnt even know it would happen... I think we can all agree something is not right here and I think this is just a lemon ht that got through. No way CRK can actually test for a bad ht until you actually start cutting with it so I dont think its really a QC issue. Hopefully CRK makes this right.

I only have 1 Sebenza and had it for 1 week so far, I'm not a fan boy. My comment was just supporting the line of thought of Tarponfly. You don't need to defend yourself from every post. I don't condemn you or your post, I condemn the reaction of some people which is out of proportion. I don't care if the sebenza felt apart in your video since I can't draw conclusions with a sample of 1 knife (referring to 1 sebenza, not the 18 that you tested already)
Cheers and chill

BTW crimson....I too thank you for the video, objectivity is what makes is great....not sheep to the slaughter! ;)

I wasn't referring to you in that quote. :)

My last comment, in regards to mr.reeve and his "attitude"....you have to remember, much as we are with our children (and this is his "baby")...right or wrong, our first reaction is to lash out.....second, I worked in the fly fishing industry for about 10 years, where a reel is double the price of a sebby, Steve Abel makes some of the finest reels ever produced (Abel reels), yet after meeting him dozens of times....he is the largest jackass I ever met in the industry...pompous and rude! What I have noticed, is that in a lot of ways it takes an obsessive, meticulous, and sometimes calloused personality to strive to achieve such high tolerances and performance. That is their part.....then they have wives and staff that ideally supplement those characteristics with kindness, politeness, and customer service....much like heather and Chris' wife do....and in my previous example, Steve Abel's wife will do back flips and then send you Xmas cards...lol.....I would like to think that all of THAT is taken into consideration before drawing a conclusion to mr. Reeves....if we all picked up the phone or wrote an email and got a direct response from the owner (wicked rare in today's day and age)....then I think we'd get similar responses...that's why the position is called CUSTOMER SERVICE rep.....they get PAID to handle you with kid gloves.....

This right here are wise words and I thank you for looking at the big picture. These threads could and should be informational and informative but they most always
turn out to be the opposite. People start taking shots at eachother and at the knifemaker in question. Lets keep this more about providing neutral information and
less about bias opinions. Neutral infor is what I believe CTS was trying to do.

I would like to test another S35VN blade instead of an S30. I have 2 other S35 sebs, but they are all born within a month of each other, so they may have all come from the same HT batch. Who knows.

Spyderco Native 5? Spyderco Mule? Obviously different knives from a different company, but they're available.

Wow. I cant believe people are getting so bent out of shape over this. I think JD did everyone a service by posting the vid on YT.

I agree... it's a cut test with some results that aren't the best... (He could be hammering away at brick LoL but this is normal use...)

Im not saying all companies don't have their own QC issues, its the way Crk usally responds to them wich is the issue. I also beleive when Blade constantly gives them the manufacturing award every year they are held to a higher standard.
I couldn't imagine buying a knife and not using it but to each his own I guess.

I agree, and there are probably some that never come to light, since many knives rest comfortably i their boxes.

I don't know if you're referring to me or not, but I actually use my knives. I was following your post until the "rolleyes" smiley was seen.

If I understand him correctly, he is saying there could be many more of them with a poor HT. But since most people keep their CRKs in boxes and never use them, (unlike you) if there are defective ones, they are unlikely to surface.

Geez! I want to nominate CTS for sainthood. I can't believe how patient and reasonable he manages to stay with some of you people (and CRK). Thanks for the tests, too.

Having said that, I seem to remember seeing it said that this knife was at 42* and that's not standard- is this true? If so, we're looking at 2 defects that made it through QC. It would also seem to me that when you start out shooting for a less than optimum hardness with your HT, any "miss" is going to be just that much farther off. And, before the haters get started, I have a Sebenza. I bought it used, at what I thought was a much more reasonable price, and still managed to buy a custom that outdoes it (lighter, slimmer, smoother and cuts better) for less $.

I do like my Mnandi though.

42 rockwell? Seriously?

Also, like many others that make such reviews, there are going to be detractors of information. Criticism on methodology. It's the nature of what you chose to make a video of. Good, bad or indifferent.
CTS- do not take this as a flame..I have no such intentions.
Problems are normally solved through the normal channels such as the manufacturer..But I can see a case being made when a review doesn't necessarily go as one might have liked. The review is just that..a report on the product..good, bad or indifferent.

I hope all this gets settled...being a CRK fan myself..It's very hard to see these kinds of results.
I will hold off on cutting my rope into a 1000 pieces :P (there goes the plans for this weekends festivities)

He reprofiled the edge to 42 degrees inclusive.

The "rolleyes" smiley is intended partly as a humorous self-acknowledgement and partly as a humorous comment on folks here in general, but wasn't aimed at you (or anyone else) specifically. I use my knives...but I have to many to use them all... :( :grumpy: Life was simpler, and less expensive, in the 1990s... ;) Fewer steels to choose from.
