(JK Vermont Hunter) Merry Christmas to me! received a couple new JK's today.

Nice looking knives todd, thanks for the pictures,

now granted I just scanned the pictures and i hate to say it, bud, but I think that handles going to need some more work :)

lol. point taken. i'll see what i can do. ;) :D

Ok John...you asked for it! ;)

wow. really pleased with how this turned out.

there is a little gap between the wood and the lanyard tube on one side, as expected. i can fill that. but, overall...this was probably my best effort. all the edges are rounded and it feels great in my hand.

anyway...thanks again to John for making me this knife. as i stated earlier, i couldn't be happier. love it.

wish i could get one of you guys to take some decent pics for me. :o ;)

Looks great, thanks for taking the time to post pics! It looks like it really fits your hand well.

That looks like my kind of knife. Nice job on the handle scales!

Jeff

That's a nice design and nice choice on handle material. I like it a lot. What thickness, 1/8"?

I know what you mean about changing things up. I put an order in for a Kephart and I think only a day passed before I switched up handle material. Good thing John's a pacient guy. LOL I also know what you mean about the straight back Kephy that bearthedog has. I've been eyeballing pics of that for a week now. I'm tempted to switch it to that with a 5 inch blade. I think I'm not going to though. I think I want to try a true Kephart first to see what the hub bub is about.

thanks a lot guys. can't wait to give it some use.

and shotgun...i find myself doing the same thing. i see a maker's design, and i immediately want to eff with it. i then need to settle myself down and remind myself, "There is a reason why this is a popular knife. maybe i should try it before i mess with a good thing." John's kephart is on my shortlist. can't wait to see it.

and yes...1/8" O1 with a full height convex grind (which is superb).

That looks really good. I knew I'd love it but that grain really came out nice.
That looks like a palm filling handle. That should do nicely.

Sorry if I missed this but, did you name it yet?

Thanks Mack. But, name it? Hmmm. i guess. i have been calling it "The Custom that is pretty much just like the straight back utility but a little different." Should i go into marketing?? :D

Yeah, marketing sounds like it's right up your alley.:D

I joked (that's what i do), but you asked a good question. i really do need to figure out what to call it. i suppose i was really only half joking because that is about what i have been referring to it as. i.e. "custom straight back utility" or "custom humpback." not very catchy.

really hadn't thought about it. i guess it really only needs a name if folks are going to talk about it. so, i am flattered that you think it needs a name.

anyway...hmmm...the first things that come to mind are "Camel's Hump" (mountain in vermont...humpback handle...WICKED clever...barf) and "The Northfield." that is where i hunted this year....Northfield, VT (mostly). that is a more sophisticated name, i suppose.

but, now you got me thinking. i'm gonna have to get back to you.

The humper?

...no wait...

The Northern humper :D

...no...got it

The straightback hump :D :D

I should go into comedy the same time you go into marketing me thinks :p

seriously though it's a nice design, i think you're right that it deserves a name

Is THIS what you're talking about? The humpty hump? it's pronounced with an "umpty." :D

thanks Myke. that was my intent with this knife. i wanted it for hunting (small game, deer, "bird and trout") and i wanted the blade past the handle (height) so it would also excel in the kitchen.

the "whatchamacallit"....that has a nice ring to it. ;)

I don't want to be a broken record, but i am really loving this knife. here she is just sailin' through taters.

Oh, and i did up a sheath today. i cut it out and realized i traced it on the wrong side of the leather. i.e. if i want a right-handed sheath, the flesh side is now out. oh, and by the way....this is the second time i have done this. :o

i've always wanted a cross-draw sheath!
