JohnDF's Return to Work GAW

Second entry. Thanks for the chance!

So, let's play for a guaranteed entry into the final 5... er, I mean 10... or maybe 20 if we get enough entries.
First one to name my absolute favorite Sci-Fi series of all time will be guaranteed a spot in the final drawing.
You have to be kind of exact with the guess. Hint: it's already been posted in this thread. Good luck.
Even if you are not "officially" entering the GAW, you can still try to guess my favorite Sci-Fi series. If correct, you can gift your guaranteed entry to one of the other entrants (you name them).
My guess is the original Star Trek.

What is more science-fictiony than the Fantastic Four? Four individuals who obtained their superpowers after they were bombarded by gamma rays while in a space ship? I remember buying this issue 50 years ago in 1968 (this is a replacement copy).
(This is my second entry, by the way.)

This one has been fun! Your judges are going to have a difficult time choosing.

Still not an entry, but I wanted to revisit this Star Trek issue before the thread ended. ;)
I used to respect you two gentlemen so much ...
DS9 > TNG > TOS > Voyager :D:D

- GT
Nope. I like TOS>TNG>DISCOVERY>VOYAGER>DS9>Enterprise :D
I never really watched DS9, but it is hard to beat Pickard and Data.
I've got one thing to say to Y'all... Captain Kirk!
You just don't get more iconic than Kirk and Spock.
I agree. I grew up watching Kirk and Spock. I watched Next Generation when it came on, because it was nice to see new Star Trek episodes. Everything after that...to be honest, they lost me with the Ferengi. Just, no.
This, exactly this. Quark was creepy. Lol

It was the Kardashians for me. Cardassians? Hahaha...

Hahaha...TNG was my intro to the Trek Universe, so I'll always have an appreciation for it. But I agree with you, Deep Space Nine is the best.

I don't really put as much emphasis on the characters as some of you apparently do in evaluating Star Trek series. The reason DS9 stand out for me is the stories. I was totally captivated by the season-long (or longer) story arcs that were standard in DS9, in contrast to the mostly one-shot, almost totally independent episodes that made up TOS and TNG.

I agree that Spock, Picard, and Data were all fine characters (I always found Kirk one-dimensional and annoying), but I thought there were several fascinating characters in DS9 who were more complex and had more depth and character development than those in earlier series. FWIW, even the Ferengi, who I think were only intended as comic relief, eventually developed important, complex roles. And that Cardassian tailor shown in kamagong kamagong 's post is one of the most intriguing TV characters EVER, IMHO!

DS9 was okay, kind of a space western in a way. Border town, new sheriff, etc. That was a good thing.
I just couldn't get behind the characters. Cisco's acting was like "mail it in", Quark was creepy, and the doctor was weak.
All-in-all it was a fine series that I watched but never got that excited about. I still watch the reruns when they pop up from time to time.
It's just great that they've made each series different so there is something for everybody. Can't wait to see what they do with the new Picard show.
