Joint ABS/Guild Show

As a new member of the Knifemakers Guild board I'm happy to see all the positive comments here about this combined Guild/ABS show. Every one is confirming our gut feelings about the success of this show.

A rising tide floats ALL boats. This is a great merge and, no doubt from me, will be successful.

I get to KC (grew up there) twice every year to see family. Grew up there. I wouldn't miss this show for anything, barring health issues (which sometimes intervene).

I can't wait right in my backyard. This will be a great event for me to go see some awesome knives an hopefully meet some makers. Being a very new maker I think it will be a good experience.

I am planning on being there, with bells on.

Maybe even try for a table.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I want to thank all of you for the great comments. I would also like to thank the KMG board members for their positive approach to this show. I would also like to thank the ABS show committee for their work so far. Things are just getting started, there is still work to do.

Bladesmiths actually have a tie to Kansas City. Bill Moran was president of the Knifemakers Guild in 1972. He reintroduced damascus to the American knife world in Kansas City at the 1973 Guild show.

At the Exposition we plan to have an award for the bladesmiths, possibly called the Bill Moran Memorial Damascus Award. Be thinking about a cool pattern to bring to Kansas City for the first ICCE (International Custom Cutlery Exposition).

I am glad to hear about the BBQ. Texans like good BBQ.

What a great opportunity for the ABS members to get their knives in front of a bunch of new collectors. And as many of the ABS members have missed out or not taken part in the ABS show because some of their products did not fall into the all hand forged category, this is their chance to bring there SS kitchen knives and mid tech folders. Harvey correct me if I am wrong, but when we talked, the rule that all knives must be hand forged will be lifted. I think this is a big deal and should be brought to light as a lot of our members make more then just hand forged. Did someone say BBQ i am packing my bags.

The OP indicated that "The show will have 75 tables for ABS makers and 75 tables for KMG makers."

That is a nice number. But I think it is still possible that there will be more folks wanting tables. If that happens, I wonder how they (whoever "they" are) will determine who gets a table. First come, first served?

I'm getting more and more stoked about this show! I've been thinking that direct interaction of the Guild and ABS is going to have far reaching positive effect on both groups. I personally can't wait to mix it up with the greats from both organizations.
This "Moran Damascus Challenge" has the wheels spinning already...

... And as for BBQ! We can tell you first hand that it's outstanding! Ryan and Mary Hays hosted us to a fantastic evening in KC after our engraving class at GRS. Kansas was a complete and very pleasant surprise for us. I honestly did not expect such a beautiful, cultured, and modern metropolis in the heartland. If any of you makers or collectors were looking for a show to bring the wife to, this is it. The Plaza shopping district could rival Paris.

All the way around, this looks to be a brilliant move.

We were told at the Guild show to get your tables early, because when the 75 are gone they're gone. First come first served.

I sent my table fees in yesterday, I hope I'm not to late.

Take care

Charles

David, You are right about the conversation we had the other day. All ABS members do not have to show all forged knives. ABS members should remember that they are not to mark their rating stamp on knives that are stock removal knives. This is an ABS organization rule. Harvey

Thanks to everyone for their hard work to make the ICCE show possible. Thanks to Harvey Dean and Jerry Moen for their hard work. This will be the Greatest Knife Show ever, don't wait, get your tables now.
Thanks Gene Baskett President of The Knife Makers Guild

Thanks, Gene for your nice compliments. I can't wait to see this wonderful event take place in KC plus the BBQ.

We're coming home. Thanks again to the ABS and the Board of Directors of The Knife Makers Guild, for working hard to make this all possible.
Thanks Gene Baskett President of The Knife Makers Guild
