Joint ABS/Guild Show

Does the Downtown Kansas City Marriott have a special show room rate for those attending this show?

Jim, the show rate is $134/nite. I happened to have already called the hotel directly to book something.

Thanks, Ryan for all the great pics and info. BTW, are the Civellas still running things in KC? ;)

Has anyone from CKCA contacted the two organizations to see if it possible to get a booth/table for CKCA to have an ability to talk with makers that are not members yet or other collectors coming to the show? Also maybe see if Collector members of CKCA
could come to the show with the same standing as Honorary members?

I'll go one further. I think it would be great if the CKCA held its 2015 banquet at this show rather than at Blade. This would make it easier maybe for some members from that part of the country to attend for once instead of always having it in Atlanta every single year (where it also seems to conflict with the ABS Board meeting). Furthermore, this show seems to me much more attuned to the concept of custom knives than Blade which is a jack of all trades and master of none, IMO.

Great idea!

Sounds like a great show. The timing is great...not too close to BLADE or the Arkansas show. I'm planning on being there:):)

Civellas, Camissanos, etc. are not too functional after the FBI got done with them in the 70s and 80s. Most of their progeny are now legit. The Roma bakery burned and it was not arson :)

I think the crowning jewel to this show would be a cutting competition. I do hope the organizers will consider this. If we could bring back the glory days of the makers' competition, IMHO, it would be the clincher for a world class show...just my $.02 worth. What do y'all think?

Called the hotel. The very bright  lady in reservations could not find any show rate under ABS, or Guild or ABS/Guild or American Bladesmith Society.

What are the magic words?

TIA!

Ken, the in-house hotel reservations, as well as Marriott reservations, have it under "Knifemakers Guild".

Thanks, Bob. I spoke with someone from in-house reservations and asked her to check Knifemakers Guild and she could not find anything. But as I intimated, my confidence in her was . . . not great. Think I'll wait and call back and maybe I'll bet someone else next time.

Weird. I made one set of reservations directly through the in-house hotel reservations, and another set of reservations through Marriott, though I had to be transferred to group to do it. I revised one of them just this morning, too.

It may be of interest to some that the Marriott is a two-tower hotel, one of which is the old Muehlebach Hotel, where the Knifemakers Guild show was held for a number of years.
