I hate to do this but feel I have no choice. I contacted Joe about having a Neck Knife made. He agreed and told me it would be $55 shipped. I felt this was an excellent price so I sent him $60 via gift option in paypal because I didn't feel he should have to pay shipping or a fee based on his awesome price. About a week went by without us talking so I emailed him to see how it was coming. He emailed me back quickly and said its almost done. A few days later he said he had shipped it on its way to me. After 5 days and still no package I asked him for the tracking number which he quickly gave me.

Now for the problem. The tracking number still says out for delivery and I have no knife. I emailed him about 1.5 weeks after he said he shipped it and he said he's never seen this before and that he will make me another one. Now it has been 2.5 weeks and he will not respond to any of my emails or my phone calls. I've left voice messages for him and sent roughly 5 emails with no response. I'm thinking the knife was returned to sender for whatever reason but he will not respond.

In all of our conversations leading up to the purchase he seemed like a great guy. I hope he's not having medical or major family issues but I do feel he could have atleast sent me a text or email letting me know what's up.

Has anyone else ever had an issue with him?

Yes I have, the women I talked to said the sender needs to contact them for information regarding if its been returned. Thank you for posting the links to other feedback. I'm hoping someone might know what's going on with Joe as to why I've gotten no response from him.
 
Looks like a mixed bag of good and bad communication. Something has to be happening. I'd venture a guess that the knife hasn't been returned if it's infact out for delivery. The delivery confirmation is almost always updated as "returned to sender/undeliverable" when it goes back. I'd definitely try and get ahold of another person, maybe in the post office on his end. It's worth a shot.

Ok I will definitely try that tomorrow. Its strange because it says the package has been out for delivery since june 12th with no other update.
 
I am currently waiting on a knife from Joe also (prepaid) and had not heard from him for about a week until a few days ago. This is a quote from him received on 6-26-2012 -

"Thanks for your understanding! I had your knife 90% done as of Monday of last week. As of last Tues, I have been in bed all week with what I thought was a virus. Turns out I am diabetic and my blood sugar was sky high. I am just now getting back my strength and trying to get myself down to the shop. I hope to have yours finished within the next couple of days. Again, thanks for your patience. - Joe"

He has had good communication up until about a week ago so I have no problem waiting for the blade so he can take care of his new issue.
 
Start a PayPal dispute. You can always cancel it if everything works out, no-harm-no-foul, but when you file a dispute, it really "wakes up" the Seller to follow-up and get things settled, or he'll automatically get that $60 deducted and refunded to you. Even if this is the mail system screwing-up, you shouldn't have to deal with a non-responsive Seller.

Well that makes me feel a little better but he still hasn't taken the time to respond to me when he responded to you.

I sent the money via gift to save him the fees. Pretty sure I can't dispute a gift.
 
Half of those links posted earlier are for "Hargis" on the forum and the other half "Joe Hargis", just thought that should be pointed out. I haven' dealt with joe so I can't comment about him.
 
as wildcat said, most of the links above are for "Rick Hargis" I believe the OP is speaking of Joe Hargis. There are two makers with the same last name here. I have dealt with Joe and have nothing but great things to say.
 
I'm currently waiting for a knife that was purchased from the Fixed Blades for sales subforum...NOT a custom order, but an already completed knife. Currently 14 days out, and still no knife. Since payment was made, I received one PM response stating he had been ill, but was feeling better and my knife would ship "shortly". Still no knife, and I sent a message asking for another update, and no response.

He's got $110 of my hard earned money, and I've got nothing to show for it.
 
If Joe has suddenly become diabetic and then began to improve (presumably with appropriate treatment) and now is again not communicating, it's quite possible that he is too ill to respond. His condition may have gotten worse since the initial improvement.
If anybody lives near Joe Hargis it would be a good idea to go over and check on him if he lives alone.

I agree. I hope if he is in fact sick, that things turn around for him. He has flawless iTrader feedback up till this point, and my communications with him have been pleasant as well. I guess we shall see...
 
I bought one of Joe's Mini Muks not long ago and had excellent customer service. Sorry to hear that you are having so much difficulty. Joe seems like a great guy and I can tell you first hand that his work is excellent.

Hope you get your knife soon.
