June 14, 2022 botm marksman 830

I really wish for a 192 with a full flat grind and micarta handle.
I've come so close many times to just buying a 863 Selkirk, but I don't want a Chinese knife.

Put it in a nice leather sheath with a Ferro rod loop.👍
Blade steel..... Heck I'd be happy enough with it that 420hc would be cool.
5160, yep.
I'm not thrilled with s30v. Sharpening it isn't fun.
Bg42 would be awesome!

Build that, and I'd buy it even with some dumb color Cerakote.😊

Yup, I’ve thought the same about the Selkirk GPyro GPyro I’m really not sure why they don’t release a US-made version. Even if it was a “Pro” line or something.

I suppose it must sell well enough as is, or they would’ve done something with it by now.

Actually, the Selkirk is a nice knife.
My grandson has the small one and uses it hunting. It's quite capable.
I'm impressed with it.
But........

I wonder about blade steel quality.
Is it really the same as ones made in Post Falls....?
And I'm not into "injection molded nylon sheaths".

So I wait for one that will cost 3x as much.🤔

Who's idea was it to put Cerakote on a blade in the first place. I'd like to kick him in the shins.

"Hey guys, I have a great idea! Let's start coating our knives with a material that flakes off if you look at it wrong. It'll be so cool!"

If they would have gone with Micarta and held off on the Cerakote, I would have been all over this offering.

Love the Marksman! Might be Buck's best modern folder!

But... I already have an orange G10 one, a white one, and a couple others.

They need to lay off the Cerakote on stainless blades. Cheesy and of virtually zero benefit to the steel. Just something else to wear off with use.

Okay, here is a question for you guys. I don't have a Marksman. I don't see any available from anyone for purchase. This seems to be a good opportunity. Should I get it?

In my opinion, yes. The price is only like $35 higher than the price of the standard Marksman. I think that's pretty solid pricing for the upgrade from 154CM to CPM-S45VN and limited number produced.

The marksman is not a catalog item and now they’re sometimes offered in special runs like this one. They are a fantastic knife. I have three different ones in cpm 154,s35vn, and 20cv. This one isn’t my color choice and I’m not a cerakote fan either but I’m sure it is still a good knife.

I see you did order one  I did too. I have no particular need or use for it, and I'm not a fan of Cerakoted blades either, but like you I don't have an 830 and the price seems reasonably...reasonable, so I'm in thumb.gif

Its the first BOTM I've ordered since the 501 in December 2020. The worst thing is I'll be out of town next week so it'll sit at the PO until I get back :(

Also picked up a nail nick 284.
