June 14, 2022 botm marksman 830

My 830 Marksman Inferno thru skblades had orange g10 handle with a s35vn blade that was stone washed and coated with some kind of dull blackish oxide similar to the old alaskan guide knives and it’s very durable. Doesn’t show any wear after about 4 years use. I wish Buck was still using that coating. I wouldn’t mind that but the cerakoted ones I’ve gotten wore off immediately. And I agree it’s not necessary for stainless blades.

I grabbed one. have most of the other ones. Fixall Fixall is right on the cerakote. better without it.......blade steel is stainless enough to not need that layer of protection, so its just for visual really.....although visually it's not my preference.

It looks like the Marksman can easily be taken apart. The strip the carakote off and put it back together. Can anyone confirm this?

Yep, it’s really easy to disassemble…. And it’s a pretty clever design.

The Cerakote should be pretty dang easy to remove. I wouldn’t expect the finish to be all that great underneath though. When I’ve removed Cerakote from other knives, I’ve noticed that not only is the steel underneath sometimes a bit “splotchy”, but most companies don’t take nearly as much care removing the grind lines when they’re going to coat them.

I would suggest media blasting or stonewashing the blade after you remove the coating. There are a few companies that specialize in that type of stuff (as well as acid washing and whatnot) if you want to be pointed in that direction.

Thank you very much for the information.

A Marksman w/ s45v blade steel at that price point isn't a bad deal.
At least it's green, so it could be a good looking knife in person.
I haven't bought anything in awhile so I grabbed one.

Hey op L Last12know , Please change your thread title to include knife name and date as seen in previous BOTM threads. It makes future searches for this item far easier.
Thanks!
One of the best things about this forum is the information search option.

I have one on order!

I couldn't take it. I was going to pass. Then I read all of the positive comments here. Earlier it was down to 63 left. I figured I had time to think about it. I checked a few minutes ago and only 10 left and I thought wow! I reviewed the specs, grabbed a 112 to compare, looked at the 110 specs - it only took a few minutes. Bam! It was down to 8. When checking out the credit card company decided to send a confirmation number to my phone. I am thinking it is going to be gone by the time I complete checkout.

[Edit: only 1 left!]

I'm grateful that it's nothing that I care about. At this rate, I'm not going to have any money at all until October, so if anything I want comes out in the meantime then I'm out of luck.

Not to derail the thread, but this is one of the reasons that I really appreciate this sub-forum and everyone in it.
It was a very kind offer from a truly fantastic member but it's a "no-can-do" up here unfortunately. With the proliferation of assisted knives and some with bearing pivots it's a mystery as to why the Marksmen is considered a prohibited item. Some day I will try to find out why.
