Just bought my last benchmade.

Sometimes, some folks don't take to kindly to
what might be perceived as product or brand bashing.
So perhaps its best for newbies to start of easy with
the traditional newbie's first batch of posting on ...
"what knives to buy?"
"which knives to stay clear off?"
"problem solving issues"
"opinion seeking"
"desire to share and learn"
besides the usual personal introductions.
Exchange of credible information is what everyone hopes to gain here.
It is helpful for one to be completely mindful
when making any posts, statements or replies beforehand
for in truth words can so easily be misconstrued.
Please do continue to enjoy your visits here Mike1911.
No noob here. Maybe to the forum...but not when it comes to knives. I should have introduced myself a little better...I'll own up to that for sure. And I also can understand how my post may have been taken as benchmade bashing.... not my intention at all. Looking forward to taking a part in the knife obsession we all share

Thread drift! Is this common? We just got a new 6 cyl outback, but the 4cyl before didn't have that problem.
I'm not sure but it happened to my friend two cars in a row which is why I heard about it. Because of the layout of boxer engine if it's a little cold the pistons will slap until they warm up. Technically it's supposed to be OK and won't hurt the engine but it does sound pretty unsettling.

P

The ti quill. Zero resistance or noise from the lock.

Again there are many ti framelocks that don’t have lockstick but many that do. Lockstick is part of the lock settling in.

Some knives featuring Ti lockbars have carburized lockfaces which can largely eliminate lockstick like on the Sebenza.

Btw if there is lube on the lockface that can also cause lockstick as it allows the lock to slide further to the right than it is supposed to.

If you want to buy titanium knives you’re just going to have to understand that some of them are designed to have locks that stick as they wear in.

I suppose the posters whining about your post have nothing better to do than to stop by to whine about your post? Is this a Benchmade fan club?

Thank you, op, for a real post. Benchmade is currently my favorite knife maker. I have been lucky. Send it back and let us know.

Why is it these posts Always seem to come from LONG TIME LURKERS with under 15 posts? OP did you order it online instead of handling one in a brick and mortar store? if so why? I'm trying to feel for you and your possible BM QC issues but my :poop: detector keeps going off. A couple of pics might help prove your validity;) Morons like me who can't read like to look at pictures. Until then I'm out of here...............
Get your bullshit detector looked at. Check out the video I posted.

Their QC is definitely questionable BUT they do make very good knives overall...sad to say this but I will only buy a BM after having inspected it in person, which is fine since I have a major dealer (and dedicated knife store) close by and another about an hour away.

That all said, I own 3, second only to Spyderco for similar price level.

I buy Benchmades online exclusively, and they're usually fine. That being said, I've gotten some really bad edges, as well as knives with centering and action issues that cannot be fixed. My current policy is that I ask the knife dealer to check for these issues before sending me the knives, and that usually works well for me. I always plan on returning any knives with issues out of the box.

No noob here.
.
Btw if there is lube on the lockface that can also cause lockstick as it allows the lock to slide further to the right than it is supposed to.
Bingo.

Sorry op, but that was a noob move. You don't want lube on your lock face. Another noob move was buying that knife. If you had a chance to handle the knife in person, something most of us never have, why didn't you inspect it, especially given your other negative experiences with bm?

I've had over 35 or so benchmades go through my collection. There has been an off center blade here and there. An off grind once and a while. Nothing major that would keep me from continue buying the brand. Maybe I'm just lucky and you aren't. If you're so disappointed in the brand and seem to have terrible luck with it, might be time to move on to another.

Not trying to pile on. Just some friendly advice.

I've heard BM's quality control has gotten a bit lax in recent years but haven't owned enough of them to make an honest assessment.

My guess would be it's due to increased popularity leading to higher production numbers.
No company can be 100% cranking out large numbers of product.
They have a great warranty and good CS so they should take care of any issues.
I do, however, understand expecting a higher level of fit and finish on a $300 pocket knife.
Premium pricing requires a premium level of fit and finish.

The pilar is made out of steel which rarely locksticks. The monolock is made from titanium which is notoriously sticky. It has nothing to do with the quality of the knife. 2000$ knives can lockstick if they are made from titanium, that’s why they invented the lockbar insert.

It’s just something you are going to have to expect sometimes in some knivss if you want the benefit of ti which is its lightness.

Why would anyone tolerate a $300 production knife with no lockbar insert and an apparently poorly carbidized lockbar face?

My only experience with Benchmade customer service was for a repair to a knife that I received in parts in a plastic bag. I was entirely satisfied with the service that I received. I haven't bought a Benchmade knife for years, not because of the quality, but because of the cost. I eyeball the mini crooked river from time to time and then I look at the price and remember that I already have too many knives
