Thanks, Eric.. ;)

I'm going to go chop a 2x6 up and see what happens. . .

Edit: I skipped right over this part of Wicked's post.. :(
It was in the wood board about an inch and broke about 2 inches back.

I've emailed Wicked and asked him to go ahead and post the pic up he has.

I originally asked him to remove it so that the shop could inspect it and I answer any questions more accurately. Also for clarity purposes (clearer pics). However, I think it is going to be misinterpreted as us trying to hide something. That is not the case so he can go ahead and post the pics up when he has a chance.

We will add some clearer pics when we have it back at the shop later in the week

A have seen that picture and it freaked me out. Just look at my first reaction. I don’t want to make any speculations of media-censor because a believe is was whit the best intention from Eric and SRKW to remove the picture and get to the bottom of it. We sure will see it some other time.

As for where the break was just as Eric said and looked almost clean.

2 broken SARs?

WOW, what would you have to do to break one of these beauties? Just can't imagine that:eek:

Never having had to call in on a warranty repair, but I, too, am sure that Swamp Rat will take better care of it then a fat girl on a box of Godiva chocolates:D

Well, I broke mine!!! :grumpy:

Yep, the cherry has been broken on this _____ !! :D She is NO longer minty fresh. The coating is all scratched up, with pitch running down both sides. I not only found one 2x6, but I found six two-foot long pieces of lumber out in the garage to cut up..

While using one piece of wood to baton it through the rest, I drove it through the wood up near the tip, in the middle of the blade, and back near the handle. The Rat came through unscathed, save for the beating that the coating took..... I really am beginning to like this "used" look...

(I still have no idea what I am going to do with the new pile of kindling that is now piled up outside my garage........... maybe I'll use it in my BBQ. :) )

you cook with that I will personally come over and have to cook for you! Then come home with your knives, just so you don't hurt yourself.

weird day huh? I took my bandicoot out and finish up the board that broke the M6.It took some battoning to get my bandicoot through. I even tried flexing on it with all 280 lbs of me sideways and it just bent about 15 degrees and returned perfectly straight and true.

I think it's pretty obvious what happened. Cold Steel operatives broke into Wauseon and replaced the SR101 stock with cast zinc stock in anticipation of LT challenging SRKW for the 2007 Even More Solid Proof DVD.

Note to the humor-impaired: The above is intended as a joke and not intended to be taken seriously.

You do the cookin', and I'll do the eatin'...

The new Swamp Rat line, does it use the same heat treatment, tempering, checking of the grain structure , direction , and carbide distribution in the steel , and the same U/V dye Penetrant Inspection as the first ones made back in 2002 ?
.
.
also how did someone break a SAR ? ( its a 1/4" thick 4" long prybar )

I think it is pretty good that these blokes will send a replacement. I have heard of $10k katana's snapping so anything can snap. Good on Swamp Rats knives I say.

Obviously, the pics are back up now. Very blurry. Interesting that only 6 have been "damaged beyond repair" (broken?). Was the BR shot with a .30-.30an accident (did you replace it? )?

Even though well-intentioned, not good to ask that the pics be taken down, Eric. You guys can stand on your record without that.

As I explained he was going to repost the pics, I wasn't hiding them.

The Battle Rat that was shot was intentional, he was trying to break it and he admitted that. It didn't break on the first shot, it needed 2. It was replaced.

The SAR's were broke at the tips where they were thinner stock, they could have been reground and repaired.

Everything on the new line (heat treat, tempering, testing etc) is the same as the old line. The first M6 that was damaged by Wicked was sent back to the shop and later bent to 70 degrees, hammered into an anvil so that it stuck and then batoned into the anvil with no additional problems (except being bent and dull)

Anyone care to host some pictures or tell me where I can for free? I was chopping a 2x8 in half and it was stuck so I wiggled it back and forth and the thing broke in half. Busted the hell out of my right hand now. Both hands mangled.

I find this all very strange. First you break one and damage your hand by punching a wall or something. Then you stick this one in a 2 x 8, 1 inch deep and break it 2 inches from the tip? I have done worse. I don't understand how you could have broken it, the wood should have split. But how is it that even after it broke that you damaged your hand? Your hand should have been no where near that when you broke the end. Makes no sense.

Sorry for being so skeptical, but I have broken knives in that manner and have never been injured. Sounds to me like you were doing more than wiggling the blade. I'd like to see some better pics of the whole blade. I'd bet it is more damaged than that like if it was pounded with a sledge or something. Just my opinion though, which is worth nothing really.

We will post the pics back up, the one's he sent are very grainy (camera phone) and I also want the shop to look at the knife so I can adequately answer questions about it when the pics are posted. He can post his back up at the same time, we would like to take some that aren't as fuzzy. I have no problem with the pics, but I do want to be able to answer the questions that will be asked when they are posted.

We have had a total of 6 fixed blade knives returned that were damaged beyond repair.
2 Battle Rat's (one was shot with a 30/30)
2 SAR's
2 M6's (Wicked has had both of those)

Just to be clear, it was my decision to have Wicked to wait to post the pics. I just want to have a little more info about the knife before they are posted.

Can we smack the living crap out of the Rat who shot his Battle Rat? :D Bullseye targets are much cheaper! :D

Absolutely not. If it wasn't for him, you'd never know that it takes TWO rounds from a .30-30 to kill a Swamp Rat. ;)

The M6 dulled after being beat into an anvil?

 That does it!! I want my money back on these junk knives. If they can't take anvil cutting, I don't need 'em:D

Pretty good, er, GREAT performance out of that blade.

Thanks for the info

And NO, I'm not serious about selling my Rats!!

  I have broken knives, too without wrecking my hand.

Pardon me for being skeptical, too, Wicked. What's the full story on these 2 episodes?

I didnt hurt my left hand with a knife at all. I just punched at a wall and hit my window instead.Last night Wehn it broke I was wiggling it back and forth with my full weight on it and when in snapped my hand bashed into the wood that was all splintered. The knife didnt cut me it was the wood. I have pictures of me doing the chopping and cutting but as you notice they are a little blurry as it was my cell phone camera taking the pictures. I knicked my pinky swinging it by the lanyard and it was dripping drops of blood on the wood as I went. I will post the pictures of it all later. I am hungover as all hell right now.
