well well well ..... if you hit metal with metal stress fractures occur.Take two hammers and hit them together....be sure you have safety glasses and body protection on ..... take pics before and after.I might want to rev my Harley up to 20,000 rpm before I take it on a long trip.....ya that be smart.

I guess it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out, heh?

or does it?

When I hacked on the spine of hte ontario blade with the SHBM, it cut into the spine of the ontario pretty bad. If that ontario fractures while chopping afterwards and the fracture propagates right through where I pounded, well, gee, do you think that might be because of the stress risers I have created.

Dynamic fracture toughness is not something tested for, but it is real.

did I read that someone put their full weight of 280 lbs on a Bandicoot?

Why would that occur to anyone in anything other than a life or death situation?

Wolf,

The Bandicoot Wicked 1 is talking about prying with is the one he just bought from me.

I probably weight 275 with my boots, althought not as heavy as Shane, and have beat the snot out of that very knife.

I have flexed it to the point my son was saying "Dang!" while standing on the other side of the room. It snapped back to true every time.

If he had a better camera he could show you the white on the blade. That is from the sheet rock I pried off the wall with the Bandicoot.

These knives are so good I am saying "Why not?" :D

I'm a little surprised that they replaced the one that had been shot twice with a .30-30. No, actually, I'm not, I'm surprised someone had the stones to ask for a replacement after doing it. That goes way beyond use or abuse and into the realm of intentional destruction. May as well have lit up an acetylene torch and cut the thing in half and then asked for a replacement.

If you really want me to smack two hammers together I will. Like I said I have batoned other knives as well with metal some do break some cut but the rats have just moved material around a little. I dont think smacking two hammers together would do anything except maybe break the handles and make my hands sore. As for the Harley, well its a Harley. They Hardly do anything. I take my 2004 Suzuki 1200 up and bang it off the 13,000 rpm mark alot on full on drags. Its stock. Never failed. I have a 79 Yamaha XS1100 drag bike. I regularly rap it out full bore sitting still in neutral. I have owned it for 8 years of this no failures other than I blew first gear out of the transmission once on the launch.Tighten the valves up when they get loud is all. My dad is obsessed with Harleys rode trhem since before I was born. I finally talked him into getting a Yamaha Road Star. He loves it. Rides better, shakes less, more comfortable and maintenance what? He has a Softail Springer as well btw.

edited to add: Yeah Terry I am in love with this bandicoot. It replaced my folders for EDC. Very comfortable to carry and God its tough. It was flexing like mad and went back to true with me hanging on it. I love it. I thinned the edge to 10 degrees. It is scary sharp at slicing now. I used it to cut a pork loin up earlier tonight. Made pork chops with it. Its my best cutting knife I own.

Maybe it's just me, but if I were your life insurance company...well, I wouldn't be.:D

I am at the point about life that I just dont care about risk anymore. Longetivity isnt my goal pleasure is. Since my wife died in May I have been getting more and more gutsy. Maybe I will win a darwin award one day. I took my suzuki out tonight for a 145 mph cruise for about 20 minutes out of shear boredom. It was a blast other than when bugs smack me in the eyes. Yeah I dont wear a helmet unless its raining.I just now got to the point I can afford insurance on sportbikes and sportcars again.

My condolences on your loss. Something like that is unimaginable to me.

Wicked, I'm turely sorry to hear about the loss of your wife earlier this year. I hope for the best for you in the road that lies ahead.

Thanks for sharing you experinces with the M6. I was shocked by your initial post but after reading through the more detailed explanation I can see why the knife failed. No knife is indestructable and that's exactly the reason that I started using SRKW knives. The warranty is hands down the best in the business and Eric is tops when it comes to taking care of his customers. I love seeing examples of how a company's post-sale performance is as good or better then the warranty states.

BTW, you and Terry need to start a milk shake diet if you want to get to where Heavy and I reside. :D

Soory to hear about your wife.
I don't wear a helment either, rain or shine just goggles.Open your mouth when yor hitting 145 and you will know what a Blue Whale feels like when eating, extra protein, the crickets are a little hard to swallow as they spread their legs out in your throat. When not wearing goggles ,the bug splat in your eyes turns yellow ,just blink them a few time s and it will be gone.
I almsot bought a Hayabusa last year....I new I would wring it out till the speedo pegged at least once.... then I thought about my grandsons....
I don't own a Swamp rat ... yet...but I will ,nice warranty.Take care.

Sorry about your loss Wicked1, I understand now why you push your gear. I cant blame you and hopefully you wont do anything that you could not walk away from.

thanks guys. I have rode a few Busa's they are a blast. I cant afford the insurance on one. Cheapest full coverage quote is around $200 a month. Thats alot better than they quoted me in 03 when I tried to buy one new it was over $500 a month just for insurance. I bought this Suzuki Bandit 1200 instead. Insurance full coverage is $28 a month. I have put a few Busa suspension parts on as they are interchangeable. Mr Turbo has a turbo kit to give it around 300 hp for under $4000 installed. Thats my next upgrade. I cant wait to feel the acceleration of that. The Busa I have rode to about 175 and the roads were getting a little too rough to keep on it. I have been off work for a while now though. I had knee surgery in May and now my psychiatrist wont release me to drive CDL class vehicles because of the medications I am on so I am still not at work. Its making it hard to pay for these knives. They let me go last week. Now I am trying to find another line of work other than driving. Normally I haul flatbed steel coils. I live in the middle of nowhere job wise. That sucks.

hehe thanks. I post under the same nick on all the forums I frequent.Computers, guns, knives, and motorcycles mainly with occasional cooking forums.
My psych and the DOT seems to think my meds tire me too much. I rarely sleep anymore. Still hanging out on forums at 2AM. I hope I fall asleep by daylight.

I have used a hammer against u.sm.c ka-bar which I was really hoping to destroy but no luck. I would pound on the darn thing with full force, it did not break. The spine on top was a bit dented, that's it. I'm not sure how a differentially heat treated 1/4" SR101 could break the way it did, sounds like a lemon.

was your Kabar the same knife that did the following:

I used Ka-Bar long time ago and the thing bent upward during chopping/splitting. The tang is thin and weak. More of a fighter than a camp knife.
