If you turn that thingie over, striking with the edge will concentrate the force, allowing you to baton a larger piece of wood. Of course this will require a corresponding notch cut at least 1/3 of the way through the spine. If the notch is placed in the middle of the saw on the spine, it will provide a place for all the wood chips to go. Works equally well for bone shards when sawing through chipmunks!!No no no...

And have him use the sledge face to strike the froe, that in turn drives your knife through the wood you intend to batton. This is good up to wrist size wood. You need to make a bigger knife(like a Tom Brown "Tracker") for anything larger in diameter.
