Just ordered a Ganzo g710

Hell, I feel like I came off a jerk. Apologies, the ganzo ordeal isn't well known to non knife guys.

I will work on my tact.

Well, he doesn't seem that new to the knife scene...looking at his previous posts he has a Millie whose lightness he is impressed by,
and owns at least one piece of fixed blade militaria. You should check those posts out. Always a good way to get to know someone!

So, he, at least knows what Spydercos Millies look like. And should be able to recognize a knock off.

Though he may very well be unaware of the ongoing controversy with Ganzo and "their" lock design.

Im a gun guy. I do appreciate a nice knife though. I didnt know that was a benchmade design. The benchmade/spyderco bastard knife is cool though.

Ganzo knives are well made and very sharp out of the box. they're inexpensive. not counterfeits. made of known materials. from a quality company. and come with a warranty from said quality company.

And I am giving you credit for owning a Spyderco Military AND being interested in antique military knives.

The benchmade/spyderco bastard knife is cool though.

That is certainly your prerogative, but, no doubt you can understand why a large number of members here (many of who depend on the knife inductry for their livelihoods), and the management here, are of a different opinion.

Are being intentionally ignorant? Ganzo makes counterfeits some are in this thread genius.

I should start checking out post history, that way I know if someone is purposefully being an agitator.

Pretty much everything you just said is incorrect.

I mentioned this in the Benchmade section of this forum, but a much maligned company that used blade blanks and passed them off as $300 custom knives also sells a knockoff of the Benchmade/HK Axis folder. It's the same company that sent legal documents to the owner of this forum, trying to get him to make everyone stop trash talking his company's practices.

Of course, that company claims to have spent years designing and prototyping the folder before bringing it to market. What's really hilarious is that they're charging $150 for it, and I'm pretty sure it's just a Ganzo copy with their name on the blade.

They don't like it when you ask questions regarding the origin of the design, or its similarities to a design that had produced for several years by another company.

While I totally agree that Ganzo deliberately stole ideas to make knives, I can understand someone looking to buy a decent "quality" knife at the price point that ganzo sells at. Some people can't either A, justify spending $100+ on a knife or B, just flat out cant buy one period because of budget purposes. Kids, bills, life maybe just demands too much on the wallet to allow someone to spend some hard earned cash on a USA made blade. That shouldn't mean someone has to give up the idea of wanting a knife collection, or seeing knives as a hobby, no matter how expensive or inexpensive they are. The thing I see is, Benchmade, Spyderco, Lionsteel, etc (fill in mfr of a stolen design here) aren't losing a customer because that customer was never going to make that high $ purchase anyway. That being said, I agree that for a few $ more an Ontario, Esee, or Kershaw folder is a way better investment and better quality knife with an original design.

I just straddle the fence about the whole topic. I understand they're blatant rip offs of the knives we've come to learn and love, and that's why its upsetting to see someone steal the design. Its not genuine, and I personally won't buy them. But on the other side I see the person who's on the outside looking in and wants to experience some semblance of what we all enjoy. And for that reason, I wont shoot someones hopes and dreams down, no matter if they're misguided.

Well said sir

As others have said, ganzo is not well liked around here. I found out the same goes for quartermaster which is a more expensive brand but does the same thing. If I were you, I'd spend money on brands like Ontario, kershaw and spyderco. They all have sub 30$ options. My favorite is the ontario rat 1. It is a great knife for the price.

Kershaw has the skyline, thermite, and Blur (which is in the $50 range I believe). And then spyderco has the tenacious, or you can look at their Byrd line which has great options as well.

Or you can save up your money, anywhere from $50-$100 will get you a respectable knife. It depends on your income though. I'm a college student so I can't really see myself spending $150-$350 on higher quality knives.

It comes down to this. You get what you pay for.

Welcome to the forums ! Sorry you had to experience some hate, but around here, brands that clone respected knofemakera ans companies is really looked down on. I've experienced it myself. Some of the members here try to make you feel like an idiot for not knowing. But just be patient, apologize for the ignorance and move on.

I'm honest. they're not counterfeits as long as they're branded Ganzo.

They advertise the lock to be an axis lock. They are duping ignorant people on this fact. How is this difficult to understand? Then add in that the knock off other designs from so many legit manufacturers.....defending them looks a bit silly.

there are sooo many good options in the 20$-30$ range that buying ripoffs because of their low price doesn't even make sense. I also understand there is a learning curve, and appreciation for original designs and quality that makes or break a company takes some time to wrap the head around.

Bottom line - google is your friend. This site is filled with threads explaining all these things, it doesn't take much effort to find out whether or not you are throwing your money away.

Hi Chaindragger, welcome to BF.

Just want to say that although the real Rift is way more expensive, I think that if you paid for a Military (is it a genuine Spyderco?) then I would recommend you pay for a real Rift, they are a great EDC folder with excellent quality and an industry leading guarantee backing it up.
The Ganzo you are looking at is an example of straight out theft from Benchmades work and therefore quite reprehensible. Also the quality of materials and build is nothing like the real deal.
