The BRK facebook page where Mike actually posted his "apology" is FILLED with people simply kissing his butt and saying its ok not that big a deal.

What a world.
America loves a conman.

Here I was thinking those things were science fiction.

I have no clue what I'm looking at here. Do those numbers show it's the advertised steel?

At this point, I'm not sure how any dealer can be certain of what they're selling without testing every sample. And even if it is the right steel, how can they be certain the heat treat is on the level?

That shouldn't add $50 to the cost. If you have thousands of knives in your inventory. 25K over 5k knives is just $5, and they have thousands of other makers in stock too that the cost could be spread over.
Training....anybody can use one. Its just point and shoot basically, and see if the numbers match. Most of the better pawn shops have them now to protect themselves from fraud. With the way things are today its the cost of doing business...If I'm buying a knife thats over $300, I'd like to know if it real.
A $50 price increase would not be unreasonable.
Fully burdened labor rates include the business costs overall. Power, rent rent or other cost of the facility, liability insurance, benefits, secretarial support, the works. Fully burdened labor cost is often $150/ hr, even if the worker is only making $25/hr. So if carefully unboxing the kniife, measuring it, putting the knife back in the box properly and resealing the box takes 10 minutes you just spent $25. That's just the actual measurment and excludes the cost of the machine itself, the training, and any maintenance.

If I ever bought a $900 knife, maybe I'd be interested. Other than that, I buy from reputable knife manufacturers and let it go at that.

“Interesting results… but what do they mean!”

That's like letting the wolf count the sheep...

Would not MS be criminally liable if someone ends up physically hurt by one of his knives due to the blade snapping?
That strikes me as extremely far-fetched. It's just not the way things work.

In our current system, I doubt he'll even get charged and convicted of fraud. He may lose a civil case to creditors for money damages, but he won't end up paying anything. This appears to me to be a walk it off situation for him. Others have predicted him popping up with a new company elsewhere. Something to watch out for.

I'm not an expert, but I'm guessing they put in the elements that 3v normally has and set a number, the detected amount deviates from that number and is indicated in red? Steels have a range that the elements are allowed to be in, so there's variance.

I was checking out Arizona Custom Knives today and they have two of the Chinese Mini Manitou's up for sale. These knives will be floating around for a while.
