Chris - so sorry to hear about your son's abduction. We have an almost identical situation here: a friend of ours in church has two kids, and his wife took them to (I think) Belgium for a family event. She had traveled back & forth with the kids several times before, so no one thought anything about another trip.

Several days after they get there, he gets papers from Belgian courts. Now he's going through the same thing you are, even to the Belgian courts stating that they know his wife illegally abducted their kids and left the U.S. under false pretenses, but they haven't made any effort to force the return of the kids - who, by the way, apparently want to come home. It's now believed by Belgian government investigators that she was planning the abduction for quite a while (several years?)

Having that knife now, with the history that it has, is a good way to keep up the tangible connection you have with your son. Painful as it may be, it's a good thing, I think. And by the way, it's an absolutely amazing piece of creativity, both by yourself in the design, and by the maker in its execution. Simply stunning.

We'll pray for the best outcome for you & your son, and for it to happen quickly. Please keep us posted on the progress.

~Chris

By the way, I wanted to clarify. I selected the design of the blade, but I did not design the blade. The design of the blade, the sheath, and the stand were all by Jay Fisher. I selected the blade, the steel, and asked him to engrave it, but the design was all by Jay Fisher. The only thing that I regret from this piece, is not asking him to make two of them. I knew it was going to be great, but man I could have never imagined something like this.

im having trouble looking away... soo.. beautiful :D

That's the way I feel about it! I go home from work and stare at it. It is hard to look at anything else. You should go to Jay's website, he has so many amazing pieces. Get on the list before he retires. You won't regret it!

Stunning work. Not my personal thing, but that is a work of art.

As to your situation, people who would do something like that to their spouse and child are absolute slimeballs.

I'd be under the jail if something like that happened to me.

Best of luck to you, and I hope you can give that blade to your son some day.

I couldn't agree more. It's so selfish. That's the difficult part about this situation, that because I try to keep my son's best interest at heart, I haven't done something drastic/violent/crazy- but I think about it often. But in the end, it would only hurt him more and it is him who I am trying to protect.

CS,
Thanks for sharing the pics of your new knife, and the story regarding your son.
In amongst the folks here, you will find support & a safe place to vent, or just chat.
I've been fortunate to chat with some of the obviously great family folks here...

Yes that is a beautiful knife, you're not going to take it camping. But it's always a knife,
& always ready for the time it may matter.

I'm very sorry for your struggle, but happy you have an understanding wife!
You working at a hospital, saving people, providing care, while coping with your own turmoil
speaks volumes about your character!

You will be included in the group I send my hopes & prayers...

Thanks for the thoughtful and kind words of support. It's good to find a community of like-minded people who are so accepting.

Absolutely STUNNING!
I consider a work of art like this akin to a ceremonial sword, and it should be treated so. Nothing wrong with a knife as art if that role pleases you.

It's cool to know in the back of your mind that blade is good to go if you ever HAD to use it.

That's an excellent comparison.

Absolutely beautiful work. I hope you are reunited with your son in short order.

Thank you for sharing.

In all honesty, I don't have a love for art knives but a do appreciate what it takes to create such a wonderful piece. After reading this thread and reading the story behind it, this is now my one and only favorite art knife.:D:thumbup: I hope your son returns back to you safety and you can share this knife with him. That will be a wonderful day my friend.

Very thoughtful and kind of you. Honestly, this thread has restored some of my faith in humanity. You, and everyone else has been unconditionally supportive. Thank you so much.
