Man I should design knives for SOG they can use this one for free I call it the SOG-"Sup" Benzga

WHOA! :eek::eek::eek:

No hate involved, just dissapointment.
Like most of the members here, we have favourite manufactures, where we were always looking forward for what is coming up next. If we wouldn't, we'd have a single knife that would do for the rest of our lives or at least until it breaks or gets lost. And we wouldn't be on the forum.

 Same here

Same for me. Just disappointed. I didn't even realize the near Benchmade copy. Sorry, but copies like these open up a company to criticism. If SOG made more original SOG looking knives, I'm certain they'd get better feedback. I remember when they had some pretty innovative products. The Jet Edge and Vision come to mind. Oh well. We'll see what happens I guess.

Hey SOG welcome to Cold Steal Knock-off crap territory. How about you be smart not put any of your sad designs out, and maybe hire a few top quality designers for next year. Look what it for Kershaw, they went from obscure to top-brand recognition in a short period of time.

Originality is where it's at.
These things leave a bad taste in my mouth every time I look at the logo.

why all the hate guys? really, what do you want? they have a blade and a handle. if you don't like it, don't buy it.
I wont, and neither will alot of people they will buy the better versions which were produced first and look pretty much identical. Stealing designs isn't cool man, I don't see how you can justify it. The similarities are unbelievable

i agree.

I still like SOG:). I got a benchmade Pika that I think was almost identical to a Spyderco in look, function and quality. I dont see anything wrong with taking a feature or concept and improving or modifying it. Look at automobiles, appliances, electronics, etc they all borrow from each other. Just my .02.

Blade profiles, handle shape, screw placement, etc. That's not a "feature" or "concept." That's a design as a whole.

Second, they did very little to modify, and nothing to improve on, the design before implementing it.

well there is a right way to borrow and a wrong way. for example when spyderco borrows something they recognize the original maker, ie they call their liner locks michael walker liner locks because that was the inventor. now a lot of people on this forum are a bit miffed at the way BM pushed around spyderco. they used the opening hole and called it an opening hole in stead of a spyderhole. SOG is borrowing the wrong way. if they had said the spyderhole and properly licsensed it i would have no gripe.

Its more that just a hole, the curvature of the scales, the design of the blade....it's uncanny!

By the way, knifedraw, Chris does not hide. He's always willing to discuss issues. A little courtesy in return would be nice. AND THIS IS A LONG HOLIDAY WEEKEND! DO YOU EXPECT HIM TO INTERRUPT A FEW DAYS OFF TO LISTEN TO YOUR WHINING?

Actually, He was on here yesterday browsing around, but not commenting.

And if you read my post, I was never whining, Just said that it was a blatant rip off and very sad:barf:. A simple opinion.

That Fielder knife looks very much like a Bob Lum Folding Stalker. It has the same handle and a very similar up swept blade shape. To seemingly copy the design of one of the greatest knife makers of all time is anything but flattering!

For the record, I wouldn't blame any one SOG rep for this. I know what it's like to be on the customer service side of a company's bad decision. The company makes decisions and I'm sure it's way above the heads of the reps here. Also, thinking about someone's arguments, I think I might want to give SOG at least one opportunity to speak about this issue before causing any more of a ruckus. It really seems difficult to explain this without the permission of at least Spyderco and have a legitimate excuse.

That's true. I also believe that Chris@SOG can't comment much. After all, what can he say when such a design and production has been endorsed and put into production from someone much higher up the SOG hierarchy?

I think we should all wait for Spyderco and Benchmade to give their input/press releases.

Hopefully SOG has a good legal team. :D

I don't think the lockback SOG Fielder bears enough resemblance or any design similarities to the liner lock Bob Lum Folding Stalker to considered a copy cat knock off.

There are just too many differences. They are not the same.

I'd have to agree here. It looks similar in some ways, but the differences seem too great to be accusing SOG of stealing a design in this particular case.

This is true, we shou;dn't get angry at chris. So...

Hey Spencer -- What is the deal????

I would be very very surprised if you heard any sort of comment from BM or Spyderco on this subject.
