KA-BAR/Becker Warranty?

During a challenge at the Fall Gathering, I watched Ark and two others accidentally thrust a BK5 into concrete and dig out a 1/8" divot in the concrete and the knife didn't show any marks. Everyone in the crowd was folded over in pain just watching it happen. Doc even has it on video on his youtube channel! I have to agree with the BS calls on this one.

Standard counter height is 30", .....and a BK-9 couldn't take a casual fall...............uh-huh.

For any doubters about the KA-BAR/Becker warranty check out the link to this YT comment + the related videos. This is what convinced me to start my Becker journey, and (though not as long as some others) it's been a great ride so far.

ESEE vs. Becker Trilogy

That was ThePointyEnd and Geek, not Ark.

What did I miss? Where are the pics? Specwar6, you can't bang out a first post like that in the Becker forum and not follow it up with something. We already know how good Ka-Bar's warranty is; however, the real questions are......

A. Does this broken 9 really exsist?
B. If so, how did it really break?
C. Are you a troll?
D. Are you prepared to be awakened at 3 A.M. with Toooj standing over your bed holding a 1095 CV samurai sword?
E. Meatloaf?

Ok, I'm going to totally derail this thread...it's a zombie anyway. 1095CV samurai sword...yum. Something like the CasHanwei tac-wac, but made in America would be interesting, and although I have zero need for such a tool, I would totally go ninja in my backyard for hours. Dammit, my inner-child is trying to get out...

Let's keep the thread on topic. If pictures don't show up soon, or I don't hear from Toooj about it, we'll consider it closed, and I'll lock this thread.

Thanks.

My bad, boss! :o Won't happen again! ;)

specwar6 - Where as I'm not 100% certain that a fall from a table or counter alone could cause the damage you have described, I have seen stranger things happen. A picture (or several) would certainly add validity to your assertion. I am 100% certain however, that if it is determined by those at Ka-Bar that your knife is somehow defective, they will replace it for you. I am certainly interested in what toooj has to say...

I'm not pulling out the BS just yet. There are a couple of ways I could see this happening...
IF this had previously been a hard use knife...
IF this knife had been subjected to absurd temperature changes...
IF this knife had already developed micro-cracks...
IF the floor was made out of concrete...

I *could* see how if it fell at JUST the right angle, and from JUST the right height, it could break.

However at this point, I'm gonna say "POINH"

Exactly.

Not all steel is perfect, and inclusions do cause failures at time.

Not the fault of the knifemaker, it can and does happen to all knifemakers.

Pictures are needed, for sure.

we had someone using a BK2 as a hard user and thrower for a while... dropped it on a log, and it snapped. toooj very quickly assessed whether or not it was abuse. he's good at that.

if you abuse the knife, and KaBar doesn't want to play nice, lose.

i believe ESEE has taken knives in, as evidence of stupidity, that have been BEYOND abused and deliberately cut up, burned, bend in a vise, etc. some customers have been asked to not buy ESEE again. iirc :)

Toooj will know almost instantly upon seeing the knife it was

A) thrown
B) faulty at the MFG level
C) total bullshit

Considering the time he has in the metallurgical trade, it wouldn't surprise me if he knew what happened by just thinking it.

We'll get to the bottom or forget it all together.

I'm thinking we've heard the last of it frankly.

I was curious about this one as well, but agree with Trade. Poster is likely wandering the caves of Middle Earth terrorizing hobbits for his goblin masters:) I will gladly recant if pics appear. Take care.

He's back!

And it does look broken.

Again a clean break at the leading edge of the ramp.

Not much detail in that photo though.

Start the recanting.

Specwar, what did Kabar say about it?
