KA-BAR Chat thread - Come on in the house

Somebody's gotta teach these kids how to snark. Or are all the Ka-Bar fan boys also beckerheads and hanging out over there?

Maybe we need to change the thread name? To something like "Snark'em if ya got'em" or "1313 Snarking Bird Lane" or "Snark World" ???

Ah. Anywho, got two more Ka-Bar's coming. A used LHB and a new BK7. Gonna strip both along with my 10 and 16. Also got a used Ontario SP8 on the way that'll be getting stripped too. Rather than do a patina or anything I'm just going to strip the coating off and not touch it. No sanding or polishing, no patina, no nothing. I did my Navy MK1 and USMC F/U like that and I'm very happy with the results. I stripped my BK9 and tried to polish it and gave up halfway through when I remembered what a pain it was to get it there and keep it there. It's still kinda shiny and I don't hate it, but I wish it was O'natural.

Lucky, I just gave away my LHB in PIF, so I'll be looking to replace it sometime in the future

Only reason I didn't get one sooner was because I already have a BK9 and I pretty much know the LHB ain't going to do anything better than the BK9, might be almost as good but it's not going to beat it. But Worldwood sent me the LHB and SP8 with a kydex sheath in exchange for me buying him a new Bk9 and for that deal on two blades I've been wanting to check out for the longest time, I couldn't pass it up. Maybe after I play with them a bit I might let them go but I'm going to put them through their paces and have some fun with them first.
 
I like the LHB better than the BK9, reason I gave it up over the 9 is because its easier to replace a current production 1277 than a roll stamped 9.

Same reason I didn't trade it for Bigberts 10, I would like a 10 but there all laser nowadays

What specifically do you not like about the lasered version? If it's because the markings dim/vanish with stripping, couldn't you just etch it deeper berfore stripping? I was under the impression that the etching stamp reduces the likelyhood of snapping is significantly reduced.

It's true that stamping introduces stress to the blade and causes a weak spot, but I've only heard of two stamped BK9's breaking at the stamp and both were Camillus 9's. It can happen, but it's not very common.


Anyway, I've still got some work to do but I stripped some blades today. Did the SP8, LHB, BK10, and BK16. Got done right about the time the mail man dropped off my new BK7.

Got about an inch and a half of snow yesterday. Took me an hour to get home in my 2wd S10, normally a 15 minuet drive. Drove my fullsize 4wd blazer to work today and of course, no more snow and the roads are clear now. Shoulda drove my little pickup again, then there'd be a foot or two.

Not sure why I didn't catch this before. "kabarbarians" is an awesome nickname for the KB fanboys. Like Beckerheads or order of the KAI. Maybe a "club" like that would get more traffic to the KB subforum. The whole place is dead.

Great idea, BH. What would we have to do to make that happen?
 
Picked up a Wart Hog folder today. I thought for 14.95 I couldn't pass it up. However, I was about to open the package then I realized its the serrated blade. I'm not a fan of serrations. Bummer.


It stays in the plastic.
