KA-BAR Tech Talk

Toooj;

KA-BAR recently released a hard-to-see teaser photo of a table full of knives, presumably of upcoming 2013 stuff. There appeared to be a Becker full size knife (assuming it's the BK10), A Becker short (assuming to show off the micarta scales), a Becker necker (assuming to be the BK-24), a JAB (assuming it to be the Gamestalker), some stacked leather handled knife, the Lake Effect, a couple slipjoints, and then what appears to be a large brown-handled folder with Dozier-ish lines.

I was wondering if you could confirm a new production Dozier folder? Any details that could be released at this time?

Thanks either way.

I updated the original post. There's another teaser photo out there just of the ZK stuff, Zomstro and Swabbie and the sheaths and etc.

BRL,

Good eye. There will be a BA Dozier. To be released at SHOT in two weeks.

Hello Toooj,
Would it be a big deal to discuss a Ka-Bar/BK&T sword in a development meeting? Myself and a few other guys on the forum are interested in it. Just for fun, I have started making my own. Another company was doing 2 models and these were disco'd, but Ka-Bar has an excellent record of making some high quality stuff for a great price so...

Hope I am not asking too much. Thanks in advance!

Toooj;

Thank you for the confirmation. I am hugely excited!

Information on new KA-BAR products out of SHOT last year for us fans was kind of frustratingly hard to get, and with Moose not going this year I'm thinking that unfortunately we'll probably have to wait a while still. That's okay though.

hawaiianhawk;

I first saw the one above in the Beckers in 2013 thread I started in the Becker subforum, but that photo plus the ZK one was released by KA-BAR on Twitter a while back.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy. I just remembered Toooj promising that Kabar was expanding their line of traditional-styled knives. I hope those end up with bone scales and carbon steel blades... Although I honestly don't think that's likely. :D

EODM,

We have talked about swords several times. We are bringing out more large knives but so far we don't have the grind capacity for really long swords. 14" is our max. grind length.

BRL,
We are planning to release product info to this sub forum when the SHOT show starts. Official KA-BAR will post on the first day of SHOT.

HH,

We are putting some emphasis on the traditional slipjoint line. This SHOT you will see some new slippies. If they are well received, you will see more.
Hope this helps.

Toooj, thanks. I'm really looking forward to the new 2013 KA-BAR stuff. This year marks the first ZK that I'm interested in, the first JAB I'm interested in, a new Dozier folder which is HUGE to me, and then the Coppersmith slipjoints. I liked the idea of the KA-BAR slipjoints that have been in production, and the chestnut thing was cool, but ultimately the profiles didn't do it for me enough to get one. But I love traditional folders so I'm stoked that you guys are making new ones.

Really glad to hear some new slipjoints are being released. I love the dog's head shield and hope that stays!

Toooj: Any idea about the combat kukri's potential as a thrower? It looks like it would be great. Wasn't sure if there have been others who tried it and can comment on its balance, etc. Thanks.

i would guess, as typical, if you throw it, you void all warranties and so forth... it might throw well, but that's considered abuse, and will likely break the knife.

TTS,

Like Bladie says. Throwing hardened steel is a real big no-no. So you won't get us to recommend throwing any knife not specifically designed for tossing. Having spoken the company mantra, if you buy the knife, you can do anything you want with it.
But if it breaks and/or bends, you are SOL as far as warranty replacement. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, Toooj. I guess I'll stick to throwing my Glock field knives. Made of similar carbon steel, and I have never had one break in 3 years of throwing. Just thought the combat kukri was nicely balanced and would do well in this role. TTS

Hi Paul, I just joined up with this forum and don't see any section devoted to antique knives. Nor any section devoted to old fixed blade knives. Could you have a section expressly for old/antique KA-BARS??

Gene,

Welcome aboard. Glad to have you here. We don't have a separate section....yet. I'll talk to the mods on this.

There is the Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades forum under the Knife Specific Discussion heading. Thats probably your best bet for talking about old knives. :)
