KA-BAR Tech Talk

On the topic of sheathes, I was wondering, are there any hard sheathes that would fit the 1271 "Black fighter" ? , obviously the standard USMC ones wouldnt, as the blade is an inch longer, but would the hard sheathe for the Kabar 1245 Tanto work? both have the same blade length from what I can tell.

Also, do you know of any retailers in canada that sell the Mark I in the leather stack handle and leather sheathe?

Thanks!

not sure but I think someone had said that the micarta scales for the bk 15, 16 and 17 where coming out in January... is that correct? when do the new KA-Bar ZK American made knives coming out?

I just bought the ZK American made war sword from Tomar's Ka-bars. It has the USA Flag laser engraved on it next to the Zombie logo. They have had them for a little while now I think.

Hello. Can anyone identify this knife. I'm curious of the value and if anyone's come across it. I have searched Google and can't find one with this finger groove. Any help or further web sites where I can refer would be appreciated.

Okay,

EODM:

The duplex grind on the grass machete was to bring the edge down to a proper thickness while still leaving enough mass on the blade. On other machetes, that is accomplished with a full flat grind and a short truncated sabre grind. With our hollow grind on top of a hollow grind, the large full thickness panel gives us the mass we were looking for.

diablo_man:
We are talking about a hard sheath for the Big Bro. No action yet ...No the 1245 sheath will not fit. If you need a hard sheath, there are many Kydex sheath makers on the net and on this forum that do a nice job and can help you.
For the first several years, Blue Ridge Knives (A distributor) had an exclusive on the leather Mark Is. That has ended and we are opening the distribution of the leather Mark I to everyone. You should be able to find them more readily available.

Yes, Micarta handle scales for the BK15, 16, 17 are being worked on. They will be ready at SHOT 2013 (January). MiamerZombie knives are in inventory and will be intro'ed at SHOT 2013. But some sellers probably are already advertising them.

rflorley:
I do not believe your knife is a standard Union/KA-BAR Model. It has been very highly modified. A 1930-40 #664-5" blade and guard with a 1950-70s pommel cap and stag handles added. The finger choil in the stag has been ground so that it should be interfering with the tang. But it isn't, so the blade tang has been either stubbed or ground so it does not protrude through the stag. The grind in the stag at the pommel is also something that is not a factory process. I could be wrong on this but I went through our collection and did not come up with anything that came close to your knife.
Sorry, but you can't ask for monetary value of a knife on Bladeforums. We at KA-BAR won't give values anyway. That is something that is between the buyer/seller and highly fluid.
Hope this helps.

I was able to remove my (very awesome) toooj handles from my ka-bar choppers in order to strip the coating, so I am sure others can too.
I am thinking it would be awesome to see some some different color tooj handles released, along with the toxic green. Blaze orange would be my number one pick.
All my big choppers would be sporting a blaze orange handle if they were available.
Sorry if this was asked already but are the toxic green ones available to the public?

Liam,

We have experimented with different colors. In one of the threads, our very own Moderator Mooser has some pics of some toxic green handles.
They may be available in the future. We have to massage the numbers and sort out all of the marketing strategies.
Hope this helps.

I've been thinking of making wood handles for my Large Heavy Bowie, but I would settle for some Green handles. :D Moose, looking good!!

Those are awesome, thanks for the pics. :)
Picking up a heavy bowie soon, that will make almost all the choppers, except the big warthog.

The Cutlass with green handles is most excellent. Hoping that one makes it to market!

Also, when is that ice scraper being released? I broke my last one yesterday and was kind of hoping to have a Ka-Bar ice scraper by the time that happened.

You know what, we damn sure do need a HD ice scraper. I break mine all the time. I sure can't complain this year though. Just getting a few flakes of snow today. Not bad for the Buffalo area.

The Lake Effect is an HD ice scraper to the max. And a helluva pain compliance tool. Trust me.

They should be out soon.

Since reading through these forums there has been a lot of talk about the BK-10, BK-6, BK-1 and other older Becker knives making a comeback.

Is there any possibility of a Reinhart Kukri design coming back? The kukri style blade has sort of made a resurgence and is quite popular.

Are the new sheaths for the BK7 & BK9 available seperately?

I don't see them listed on the KA-BAR website.

Thanks,

Jon

EODM,

The Reinhardt Khuk is in the works. Right now we are waiting for the Reinhardt Estate to approve the design.

Jonc123,

The sheaths should be available separately. Call customer service and see if you can order one. If they are available, they should be fairly inexpensive.

Hope this helps.

Oh no, another khukri for my collection :), which is a good thing for me but not my wallet.

The only way I could be more excited is if Kate Upton moved to town and had a thing for fat guys.
