Ka-Bar's new Fun stuff: Zombie Killers

Actually, a question: if they are making knives after the four horsemen of the apocalypse, where is Death?

The sheath will be made by "Pale Horse" leather works

Famine Tanto
Pestilence Chopper
War Sword
Death Dagger

one, two, three, four. yup, all there.

i have held a certain prototype at blade. i'm not entirely sure if i took pictures or not, but as i recall, if i did, i couldn't show you all :)

though other people MIGHT have photographed it. mmm. the internets. maybe :)

filthy orc lovers will probably enjoy it. that's all i'm saying.

death is coming.

no, not the little death :)

really?? a kabar sword? hmmm, not sure how I feel about this...

as Moose says, not a sword...

but you KNOW how you feel about it. all soft, and warm and squishy inside... your victims. as you lovingly slide your blade through their internals...

:D

WHAT!

Well, I brought the Famine anyway.

Not bad. Not as sharp as I expected and the sheath is a bit iffy (the neck knife's holster-place could have been an inch or more longer) but otherwise it's OK. They gave me screws and a black handle in the pack as well as the neck-knife and some paracord.

I've just cut some wood with it. It took some effort and handle isn't as anti-slip as I hoped: I had to wrap my little finger around the rear bolster. It took some time to cut the wood as it was hard and dry, but it did the job. It didn't chip or bend the edge either. The serrated part cuts, although I haven't tried to saw trough anything (it can saw though).

The edge isn't terribly impressive coming out of the box and the serrations are chisel-edged.

Overall, it seems like a proper if a bit gimmicky knife. Not what I would pack for a survival situation but it can work in a pinch

Good to know you like it! Definitely not made for a survival knife, but would work well for what its made for.

Post some pics of your use!!

it's a shortish tanto, not a survival knife as such. could you survive with it? yup. could you stick hogs with it? oh yeah! martial artist? probably an interesting tool there.

did you try the trick of using the hook at the end to increase your leverage while chopping? then snap cuts.

not sharp enough out of the box? then sharpen it.

want a chopper? get the pestilence (mine was sharp enough to shave hair, go figure)

want a heavier chopper? many other choices. so many. omg.

I took my famine out for a little abuse the other day, and I have to say I was a little disappointed with the results, but I wasn't expecting it to be perfect, It will get the job done, but require extra effort.

I tried chopping a 3" live branch, I think it took me 30 or so whacks to fall, then I tried to saw with the serrations, once you get about a 1/4" into the wood it goes no further until you twist sideways to make the groove wider, then it will bite again..not that big a deal since I already carry a saw of some sorts with me when hiking or camping.

I don't see why this wouldn't work as a camp knife if you are batonning wood and clearing small brush out of your way, it has enough heft to it.....feels good in the hand, and the green is attractive.
I will second the Acheron sheath position, its awkward to remove and the button snap through the handle is difficult....but its there when you need a small knife for detail work.

Neither of the two were sharp, they wouldn't cut paper, bummer.

I will have a go at them in a few days once I get a chance to sharpen them up, pic will follow that test.

Would it do as a survival knife? Yes, although more like a C+. If you want to cut wood, you're better off just bringing an ax or a hatchet. It's mainly an attack knife. That's what I honestly expected anyway.

It's not a hook, it's a real bolster. I held it at that end yes.

Duh.

Not anytime soon nor do I need to: I already have a pretty serious HI kukri.

I purchased the War Sword. Not the greatest edge out of the box, but liveable.

I don't think these are made as a outdoor survivalist knife. The blade is longer than my bk9, but not quite as thick. The intimidation factor with the knife is cool. Something about the green I like also. I'll post some pics, but have to find the charger for my camera battery first.
