Photos KAI I Trust

Please , PLEASE , hold your breath waiting for me to blah ..blah ; my eyes are starting to cross at your obsessive absurdity . You put up some good posts but then inevitably revert to type . Kinda sad and such a waste ! :( Now you're just trying to get a rise and/or close the thread , as usual . I know your tricks , silly rabbit ! :p

Sorry mod , how do I delete this post ? I put it up before I saw the above warning .

I was trying to delete this . Not helpful ! Bruce would not be proud .:thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

So anyway, I would trust a nice big KAI axe.

The ZTs I really like enough to spend money on are the Hinderer colabs and the Emerson colabs but even then I’d still just rather buy a Hinderer than a ZT but the 0620 I have is very nice don’t see myself getting a real Emerson. The only other ZT I have is a 0561 and it’s excellently made. Like it just as much as the Hinderer XM.

Lock push and light spine tap failures aside I like ZT and would buy more if they had a design that I was interested in

I do wish ZT would bring back the 0560 in something crazy like 3v. I bet they will someday.

Another KAI I wish they would bring back is the Kershaw Tremor. If you like a big murdery looking knife that actually functions as a cutting tool, this thing was awesome. On close out you could find them for $25 or under. I've had this one for a while and it has been serviceable up and down the eastern seaboard.

And a current steel of a knife from KAI is the Kershaw injection. For what you get in materials this thing is amazing.

Not the best pic but here it is anyway:

And in the theme of this thread, neither failed a spine whack!

Back to the OP's original posting, which seemed to get derailed:

Looks like they did a good job of spell checking that blade on the ZT!:p

The ZT 0400 is one of my two ZT knives. Although I haven't used it as much as many of my other knives, it's quite well-made, and its liner lock is very sturdy. I believe they've been discontinued for quite a while now.

I no longer buy any KAI knives, because too many of them are AO. They have some nice designs I would like if they were strictly manual.

lock failure talk on the podcast.

starting somewhere around 50min in.

yes, its bitten someone.

It’s really worth listening to the duration of their conversation about that.

It’s nowhere near the problem that people on the internet are making it out to be. The guy who got bit specifically stated that he held it “like a taco” and folded it.

I have tested my ZTs, and the locks on mine don’t fail.

I also use my knives as though they’re slipjoints, whose locks are intended to back up the primary safety mechanism, which is good handling.

Yep, in that case Jake was essentially testing the lock by applying pressure to the spine with his hand. It definitely isn't a realistic situation (as Brian pointed out and I partially agreed with) but it's still bizarre that it failed with hand pressure.

I don't see the lock issues people are finding to be a huge safety concern, but nor do I think it's appropriate for the lock to fail that easily either. It hasn't made me sell off my ZT's or anything, but it was unexpected for sure.

I've had knives in the past where I just stab them into wood that had the locks fail. These were cheaper knives though. I was lucky but just by a hair. I did this with a SaC when I was a kid not knowing what would happen and it bit me for sure, but yea it's a non locking lock so it's obvious why. . You would think that a proper manufacturered lock wouldn't do this.

I've beat the snot out of some very cheap frame and liner locks and they wouldn't fail because the lock just keeps getting deeper in. Then a couple of expensive frame and liner locks fail easy taps on a roll of tape. I'm not even going to try most of mine at this point. If the lock seems tight and solid it's just pointless.

Well said, and very reasonable.

Speaking of things that should be expected to not fail, how about those Blade Show hookers?

I need to work on my segues.
