Karda... banned?!

The lesson from this story? Don't be an idiot :)

Was going to say "Don't be a furry?" But I suppose the idiot part works just the same!

Ooh ya, got plenty of those little bloody crescents in my life. Some feisty snakes, some excited snakes still in feeding mode, and just some nervous nips here and there. Really not much worse than getting sway by a cat when it comes down to it, just surprising. Unless it's a tree snake. Then there will be blood.

The feeder rats usually bite WAY worse than the snakes!

I like rats too! I had a problem with them after the fire burned all the trees down on my property and the remaining vegetation was more meadow-like grass and rat heaven! The solution was the preverbial necessity of invention. There were at least eighteen to twenty of them that were getting into the house each night because my new house was not sealed off yet. So may I welcome the "RAT VAC"! I used one of them motion sensor security lights and wired it up to a relay capable of triggering the motor on my shop vac. When the rat would climb in the tube to the shop vac to get the peanut butter the motion sensor would trigger the shop vac and suck up the rat into the vac. Set the timer just long enuff to get the rat inside the tank then it will turn off by itself. The rat wont figure out how to get out. Id empty them out the next morning. I might have ten or twenty rats in the vac in one day and id release them at the end of the property. I should have marked them to see which one of them were repeat offenders but never did. Eventually the "season" ended and they quit coming in the house. Still think I should have gone to shark tank for funding with the project but oh well. Yall dont tell nobody:D

Ahahahahaha LadyEarth that's too good!!!

Lmao, ndog you're definitely onto something there. If nothing else, I'd love to sit and watch the rat-vac in action. Sounds hilarious!

Tim that was a fantastic video. Thank you for that

That video kind of puts a different perspective on rats for sure.

And Mr. Wallace the year of the rat maybe ain't so bad after all.

Doubt it will effect the missus much, she don't like rats much either, or snakes.

Glad I was born in the Year of the Rat and not the Year of the Bawanna........

bawanna got a year.

Tell me what is the year of the rat? Wonder what rodents year I was born in. This could be good.

PM inbound. If you come back with year of the cockroach or something, we're gonna have issues.

Man I feel bad now sucking up them smart rats. Least they didnt get hurt cept maybe their eyeballs getting sucked out:rolleyes: Guess that would depend on whether they were coming or going eh? Actually no rats were harmed so rest assured. I should do a vid on that for sure SG. Need night vision tho.

Sweet.
I guess the motion sensor was inside the hose so it doesn't trigger before the rat is inside of it?

Well, you got the answer, should I tell everyone it was the year of the " ", naw, I'll let you tell it.

Cut a hole in the hose big enough to detect the rat. Duct tape the sensor to the outside of the hose so theres a nice clean channel for the rat to pass through. This also seals the hose. You have to have about a foot of hose (depending on how fast your rats are) before the sensor because when they hear the motor crank up they will dart back out. You have to remove the filter element too of course so they will drop down into the chamber. You have to use a relay as well because them sensors are only made for a hundred watts or so (light bulb) and a shop vac motor is way more than that. The whole thing can be built for about $25:D You could prolly lean a stick on the bottom up to the outlet port and connect the hose and throw it outside a window or something so they can get out on their own if you like.

btw: Hi Karda! Are we off topic yet? ;)

Perfect. I'd have bought one of these motion triggered plug points and taken the sensor out and extended its wires a bit so that they reach the hose.
Then once it triggers the plug point, the vac which would have to be switched into the on position would get power and start sucking.
