The guy has seven posts, and he's already making friends. I don't have a dog in this hunt, but I also don't want to see other folks burned. Maybe being called out in public will change Berak's attitude about commitment to buy.

The seller's account:

To set the record straight ( I have the email) you posted I'll take it and when I sent you
paypal info you asked me to wait a couple hours to see if you could score a different NMFBM you liked better, but if that deal didn't work out you would reward me by buying my knife. I simply informed you that we don't do those things here and to look elsewhere. Leave this post alone, I need serious people to buy these knives.

Berak's response:

I was content to leave this post alone until you decided to call me out as flaky. I will respond in my defense as long as you see fit to do so in a public manner rather than keeping it a private matter.

I dont disagree with your account of events, although the idea of "rewarding" someone who is just selling an item seems a curious joice of words. I only asked for a few hours of time, I could have just not responded and all would have been fine. The other knife was already sold so there wasnt much chance it was still for sale, it was NOT another NMFBM, but a different style altogether.

Saying "Ill take it" is not swearing a blood oath, for all I know, you may have sold it in the meantime. Would you then be honor bound to provide another at that price? Its the start of the process with confirmation needed that the item is still for sale and at the stated price. Once all terms are agreed upon and payment is sent then you have a deal.

I can only imagine what you would have said about me if God forbid I didnt get back to my computer for 24 hours or more.

I take your attempt to impune my honor seeriously.

I don't know what others here think, but in my book, "I'll take it" means... well... "I'll take it." It doesn't mean, "I think you might sell the knife out from under me, so I claim some wiggle room to look around some more." It's not a blood oath, but it surely does involve some honor. Ironically, Berak does seem concerned with his honor on some level.

I won't be doing any deals with this guy and just thought I'd give a heads up about his attitude.

ETA: I've had folks back out of deals for legitimate reasons that I understood. Happens all the time. However, Berak's attitude strikes me as wishy-washy. His word does not appear to be his pledge if he's just tossing out "I'll take it" as a way to put a hold on a knife. The more appropriate post would have been, "Hey, I'm still looking, but can you give me first dibs while I weigh my options?" As a seller, I would probably say no, but at least I wouldn't be tricked into thinking someone had just bought my knife.

Ill take it means Ill take it unless you got a pretty good excuse. That excuse was not very good imo.

I had a member request a refund right before I was about to ship his knife today(I did refund). He said he found another knife that he wanted more. I found out that the same dude did the same thing to another member in order to buy my knife

Being flaky will not get you too far around here.

"I'll take it" means just that. I don't see any room for interpretation. If I say "I'll take it" a deal is made. I owe the seller some money and the seller owes me some goods.

Admit it, Cougar. You've been dying to use that Google app. :p

Not following through on "I'll take it" sure says a lot about the character of the person who posted it. (and it does not say good things).

When you are the seller & there is a back out on the I'll take it,you yourself will know, right then & there, when the reason is given,if its "flaky"

Berak the seller posted you flaked on the deal because you did flaky.
If you post in a for sale thread that you will take it PAY UP. If you want info on the price, condition or availabilty of the knife send an email, pm or leave a visitors message. The exchange isn't your local Walmart with a layaway dept.:thumbdn:

Yes, hard to believe I discovered three chances to get a very nice knife one right after another and just kind of panicked. :(
Thank you Dericdesmond for the refund, I apologize for the problem.
I'll think over jumping for a knife on Exchange better next time.

I would be personally embarrassed as hell if I said "I will take it" and then had to go back on my word, I think most of us see it that way.

If you say "I'll take it" and then take the stance you have concerning the words "I'll take it"

You should never be allowed to utter those words here again on BFC and BE BELIEVED

I can well understand the general view taken, and I respect that. The fact of thee matter is that I didnt back out of the deal, it was revoked because he didnt like the fact that I was up front and honest about a 1 in 1000 shot on another knife that was probably already sold. If I hadnt said anything about it , it would not have been an issue. I was prepared and planning to buy the knife and the offer was revoked from me a few hours later.

Wouldnt it be prudent to at least wait for the back out to occur before branding someone, revoking the offer, calling a moderator, and starting this thread? A few hours is all I asked.

I guess I will just have my account deleted, no point in wasting any more time here. Well played Dave, you win, bravo and all that. I harbor no ill will to you (even though you apparently do me from the tone of all your emails and postings here) or anyone else here.

Take care and stay safe,
Tim

if you want something held, just ask. if the seller says no, then it doesnt get held.

if you say you will take an item, you're on the hook for it.

backing out because something better came along is not a valid reason. that position is indefensible.

you won't be missed.

live and learn.

you may experience some trepidation from sellers in the near future, but it shouldn't be too difficult to establish a good reputation as long as your next few transactions go smoothly.

I guess reading comprehension is not what it used to be, I never backed out of the deal, and likewise.

yes, your comprehension is bad.

did you say "ill take it"?

did you pay?

or did you want him to hold the knife while you made up your mind?

I was paying within 3 hours, is that "holding" it? Really? What if I didnt even see the email till the next day? I find it absurd to expect payment within 1 hour. You know on EBay how long a seller must wait before he can file a non payment? 1 week.

you said you would take it.

you didn't want to pay because you wanted to see if you could get another knife instead, and thus the delay.

that means you backed out.

and if you take an item on ebay, your stuck with it. you still have to pay even if a seller cant file a complaint for a week. that comparison is irrelevant.

what is absurd is your continuing attempts to defend your position.

So a three hour delay means I didnt want to pay, got it. I guess we are done here. Maybe you need to post some warnings for newbies that payment is sexpected within 5 minutes from posting or whatever you feel is appropriate.
