Ken Erickson Knives: A Retrospective

Beautiful job Ken,as usual
-Vince :)

Ken I don't know what to say. The finished knife is just so much better than I could ever have imagined.
Thank you so much.:)

Steven better not travel down any dark and deserted hallways with me at the show...I'm just sayin'...:D
:p

WOW! That's almost too nice to use, but he better use it! ;)

Nice snaggage, CNasty! I had to go back a few pages to find it. I'm willing to bet all of Ken's knives are gone at this point.

Ken unloaded today. His knives were AMAZING!!! In particular, I'm sure Elliot and Blues will have something to say! Mike...yours was pretty sweet also. I'm jealous

Thanks for picking up that gunstock Campbell! I really enjoyed the time spent in the room showing you and Kerry my knives! See you on the show floor today.

Bought just before the Blade show, this knife went for a little ride with Ken for a little CFing and CEing at the gala Atlanta venue! To see how it liked it, and for more pictures, go here:

Otherwise, for the Retrospective record, the first known Empire style Electrician's lockback, done as a Custom!

While I missed Blade 2011 due to some travel issues I was quite fortunate to have these beauties from Ken find their way back from Atlanta for me to add to my collection of Picks.

Yea, think he had like 7 picks at the show...they were quickly snapped up.

So.......I'm excited about a WIP that may pop up in the coming weeks. Really pumped about it........

I don't think this one made it into this thread (as I recall)...from Ken's 2011 Blade Show offerings.

Now that is a day-brightener! What a beauty.

Great looking knife, it looks like it would hold up to anything.

It's a great knife and it looks a lot better in person than comes across in the images. Even though they are Ken's images I know from experience how difficult it can be to get good shots of dark G-10 and micarta. (Not that I'm any kind of photographer.)

The knife also feels great in the hand. I can't tell you how many times I'd go by Ken's table and hold it like a talisman or worry stone while visiting with him and Nettie.
(And no, I wasn't going to make a break for the exits...;))

I also find it interesting that both Ken and Richard Rogers (as good a pair of makers as one could hope for) both independently came up with the idea of bringing G-10 scaled stock knives to the show.
Proof that great minds think alike? You decide.

Nice looking stockman! And if Elliott was picking it up constantly, it had some magic for sure! I'd expect nothing less from Ken!
I hold these modern custom/traditionals, and sit them next to 40 - 80 year old knives of similar pattern, and wonder how they will age. Well cared for, with these modern materials, patinas of age will be much more subtle, and the knives will last through many more "uses/cuts" than the older ones. I say that because of the tough steels and near indestructable handle materials.
As long as they are oiled regularly, our great, great grandchildren may inherit these things, and marvel at the skill of the "old-time" makers! Wow!
Leads me to think makers should do those kids-to-be a favor, and stamp a date on the inside!!
Idle musings aside;
Here's one of Ken's that I purchased from a reluctant denizen of these parts (he was raising money for another Erickson!).
A tough useful pattern, impeccably made as usual!

It may have appeared here before, but with a different background. It's not mine until I scan it with that dingy old yellow backdrop.
Thanks Ken, for the usual great work, and Mr. Nasty for letting it go my way!

Here's a few additional images of Ken's stockman. I just can't capture the depth of the deep burgundy scale color so you'll have to use your imagination.;) :

Oh, it looks perfect - I love it. Congrats, Elliott!
Maybe it even makes me change my plans...
