Ken Erickson Knives: A Retrospective

Good for you Charlie.

We wait in keen anticipation for you to host another generous giveaway, this time Pruner orientated:D:D

Regards, Will

I had a chance to get the scales dyed and jigged for the Eureka jack. Starting to look like a knife now! Next step will be to do some rounding of the scales, and decide on the shield.

A very good looking Eureka this will be
You've got all different kind of projects going on - I really enjoy watching you build all these beauties :)

I had a chance to finish up the Eureka Jack today. This one was a pleasure to build. Always nice to have the vintage knife for inspiration as the build goes forward,

Ken,

Excellent as usual, I particularly like the bolster treatment, the thread looks great next to the flute.

Mike has a lot of inspiring knives, carefully selected! I foresee more in the future!!

That's a great execution of a super pattern. Nice work Ken. Mike, you are gonna like that knife!!

Ken i would like to know about the blade grinds. Are the blades on yours ground more thinly than the Carrier ? Or about the same ? which would mean that the old Carrier blades were ground to about perfection.

Roland,

I paid a lot of attention to matching blade stock thickness's between my knife and the Carrier. That is one of the nice perks of a surface grinder. I can match thickness exactly rather than relying on the steel supplier stock thickness. I grind to pretty much a zero edge. I would say I am really really close to the same grinds as the Carrier in these aspects.

Thanks guys for the kind comments on this knife, they are appreciated.

Great job Ken it looks fantastic!!! I can't wait to get it. Thanks for working with me on this one. Man she a beauty:)

I really like the looks of the fine thread next to the flute also. I had debated doing something different but glad I went this route.

really nice swedge on that pen blade.

Thanks Mike, swedging is like grinding blades, takes many hundreds/thousands of them to get really proficient. Not there yet, but working on it!

Glad you like the outcome Mike! It was my pleasure , thanks for giving me the opportunity on this one.

Thanks guys for the kind comments on this knife, they are appreciated.

Add my compliments to all the others, they're really well deserved.
As Mike said, the swedge on the pen blade is really great, and just the fact that I noticed even the smaller secondary blade among all the other (more evident) beautiful features of this knife accounts for its beauty.

Ken: How did you cut the thread....looks like a V rather than a square cut....very nice. Do you also cut the groove/flute with a chainsaw file? Thanks and stag incoming!

Email sent John, Thanks for the update on the stag!

Here is another swayback going to Blade Show. This one is on the opposite end of the spectrum of the Micarta swayback. Bolsters, shield, my jigged bone. The bone on this one is a bit lighter and with more variations in color. 3 5/8 inch, 154Cm.
