Ken Erickson Knives: A Retrospective

I love it Ken! Who wouldn't want one of these made to this level???

I'm getting more and more excited for when my name comes up :)

Very nice Ken. I cannot see anything which could be improved upon with this one. I think every one of your modifications to the pattern improve the aesthetics and function of the knife.

Real nice congress, Ken! and That Micarta clasp knife is an uncommon version of common design. Very nice touches to render it outstanding!! Ken I like your approach to making simple "working" knives into works of art! Who else would build an electrician's knife, and a hawkbill?? Only the best and bravest!!

I must add my Michigan Pen to the thread. I just received it, and it is a super example of the breed!
4 3/16" is usually a big bulky knife, but this one gives the illusion of being a more "regular"-sized Jack. Exquisitely fitted stag (that Sheffield karma rearing its head) and an Empire-influenced shield ices the cake.
This knife is the first knife fitted by Ken, with a blade bushing, and does not have the "dot" indicating same. It does have a remarkably smooth and solid-feeling action, with perfectly flush joints in all three (including half-stop) positions.
Super version of a pleasing and useful pattern. Thanks Mr. E!!

Here's a knife Ken made for me few months back, I got it while I was in the hospital and I forgot to
post the finished knife.. It's made after an old Remington R153

Jason, thanks for posting pictures of the jack I made up for you . Still a very special knife to me,

Thanks guys for the comments on the lockback. Every time I work with that yellow Micarta I like it even more so.

Nice Rem153, Jason and Ken! Lively bone handles as well - great jigging and dying!

Kevin,

Feel free to post here, looking forward to your results!

Thanks for the comments on my work guys! Means a lot to me.

I did start on the balloon jack with seal cap today. I should have a few WIP in the next day or so.

Sweet thanks Ken!

Here is the before. Almost all the dark had worn off and the rest had turned real yellow from honing oil:

Here is both sides after I had buffed it once and sanded for about 30 minutes.

I had to sand all the high spots very carefully. I wanted to/and tried to darken the highs/polished areas but it wasn't turning out well for me. So I had to sand it off.

In doing that I actually made it overall much nicer! The end result which is perfectly matched side to side is here below:

The parts of the stag that I buffed on my 10" wheel are like glass! Not something you may always want but I really like it.

Anyhow, that stuff really is corrosive so thanks for the warning. I am excited so I hope I'm not going on to much, but its you that I have to thanks. So this is my way of showing it.

Ken, you make this look terribly easy and it surely is not.

Respectufully,

Kevin
