Ken Onion Knives Stolen

A black day for the knife community.
To think that 3-4 months of his design and sweat, and God given talent went into what Airport security made him check into baggage to lose is a nightmare.
One can only imagine how Ken must feel. From his mind to finished blade is a process most of us could never even dream of completing. He had his dreams and income stolen from him by some overpaid baggage handler.
Thanks again to terrorism and changing the face of our world forever.
Ten years ago he would have had them on his lap the whole flight. And been smoking a cigarette at the same time!
I am attending a blade show in Janesville WI this Saturday and I will bring these pictures with me to distribute to other makers in case they did not see this post. It's all I can think to do by myself to raise awareness of this theft. At least the participants at this weekends show will have a copy of the stolen blades. And God knows how tight this community is when one brother is hurt we all hurt. So I wish a speedy recovery of Kens knives and a happy ending. There will always be other shows to sell at.But only one set of those knives.
Let's all keep spreading the word so the thief can't sell them for pocket change and get away with it.
Supporting Ken in the only way I can,
Peace.

The dumbass who took those knives will NEVER make any money off of them.

Too many people in the knife community are looking for them, and I imagine he will get a lengthy prison term for the large amount of the theft.

I know Ken is sick over this.......He spent most of the last two months working on them!!!!!

More like around $30-35,000 in that pic, thats at Ken's price. Double on the resale!!!!

First off... My GOD those are absolutely beautiful!!!

And second...... I would like to know what the route was, so maybe if I'm close enough I could scan some pawn shops.
Plus I'll keep checking ebay for em.

I really want those found. Those beauties belong into the hand of somebody that can actually really appreciate the hard work and great amount of skill invested in them!

I'd be more inclined to think he was another victim of an unscroupulous TSA agent.... :( :thumbdn:

Inasmuchas we don't know what happened, it would be best not to go casting aspersions.

I assume that Mr. Onion has filed the appropriate reports with the airlines and with the police.

Does anyone know if the bag was locked, what type of a bag, any other details?

He had his dreams and income stolen from him by some overpaid baggage handler.

Again, it is best (especially for someone with the screen name Prince of Peace) to refrain from assuming who is guilty until the facts are known.

The dumbass who took those knives will NEVER make any money off of them.

Assuming the knives were stolen by someone, that person will probably be able to make a few hundred bucks selling them to people who have no appreciation of them. Inasmuchas the guilty party obtained the knives for free, that's a pretty good profit margin.

This just makes me sick to my stomach... I hope they catch this loser/losers! Ken, the knife community is BIG with lots of eyes, I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they're spotted. Mods, this thread should be a sticky so that everyone sees it. Also, would it be possible to send a mass email to all BFC members with a link to this thread so that it gets even more exposure???

There is a sticky in GB&U in case these ever show up on the market.

One can only hope that the high value of these would make a police/insurance investigation serious.

Oh geez, this is horrible news. Thankfully there are pictures of all the knives that will help a ton. Hopefully these will all find their way back to Ken.

It's a shame no doubt. Will keep an eye out on ebay.

Man what is that huge bump/offset crossbreed ?. ..where can I get one?!!! . . .legally!

Ill have the pics with me at all my gun/knife shows...thanks for getting the word out

Unfortunately if they were indeed stolen someone will make money on them in this world that we live in. What sucks about this is that some innocent person or persons will buy those knives not knowing that they are stolen and then find out abruptly when he or she shows it/them at a knife show, or posts pictures on a public forum or worse, when they are approached by the local Sheriff with a lot of questions regarding who they were purchased from or where he/she got them after being turned in by someone that recognized them when they were shown off.

I would not want to be the person on the $hit end of the stick in this situation. I would strongly urge all reading this to keep one thing in mind. In the event that you see all or any of those knives posted by someone in the future bragging on what a beauty they just snagged remember to give them the benefit of the doubt before you bite their head off calling them a thief or worse. They may be quite naive and innocent of any wrong doing on their part. It could happen to anyone that knows fine cutlery that has a weakness for a deal and just because they end up with the knife or all of them does not automatically make them guilty of anything other than feeding their habit like we all do when a deal comes around. I would urge kindness over jumping to conclusions as some of you have already been guilty of. I recognize its a sorry situation for Ken. I feel for him and hope he finds them but if they were taken I think we all know the likely hood of finding all of them together again is very slim. I just hope they were insured.

Any idea when they were taken?
My brother works for Hawaiian Air, based out of Honolulu.
I could ask him to keep his eyes/ears open and to maybe call around to some pawn shops on the island.
I live in Los Angeles and am going down to Huntington Beach for a fishing tournament tomorrow, I could take a look around.
I've got friends in San Francisco...
It's a big world, don't know how much help any of it would be but it'd be very helpful if you'd share as many of the specifics as possible with us to give us each a little bit of a detective springboard.
Beautiful knives, shame about the theft.

Well, since they were lost "in transit," it would appear on the surface to be an inside job... This sucks all the way around.

But, it's a simple illustration of why I choose not to fly, and if I have to, anything of value gets FEDEX'ed, never left in baggage that is out of sight.

My condolences, Ken. We've only met once, and briefly, but I admire your work. And those pictured are actually the finest examples of your work I've seen to date...

I do sincerely hope they were insured and that the value prompts some sort of action by those in charge at the TSA and the airlines level...

Good luck, sir.

With the thief more than likely not being a Knife person. May-be a check of the local Pawn shops would be in order. I had a nice set of Weatherbys stolen the same way while flying to a hunt. Fortunately they were found. Mike

That sucks. I'm in Cali, if I hear anything I'll let him know. We should also keep an eye on ebay for this jackass.

This totally sucks. Some rat f*ck thief out there probably has no idea what he's stolen. If he tries to sell within the knife community he'll get caught. If he goes to a hole in the wall pawn shop he'll likely get a few hundred dollars for the whole set.
