Ken Onion Knives Stolen

Having been a victim of theft in my own life, Ken must be feeling very angry, possibly depressed over the incident, and likely taking the theft very personally. My heart goes out to him for everything that he has lost as a result of this. It goes MUCH deeper than money, MUCH deeper than knives. This is a man who has had a part of himself taken away...possibly forever. Ken, if you by chance should read this, know that we share your loss and hope that by some small miracle, there will be a good ending to this sad story.

Ok....I'm not going to post all the flames I got. If anyone really cares, they can read them. I sure don't. But I'm not surprised I got them because all any of you did was read my comment, not the quote I was poking fun at.

No, it's not cool, I never said it was. But it sure isn't the end of the world. And I wouldn't worry about "food on his table" (whoever posted that). Come on, this guy has plenty of "bread" (that's a pun for the humorless). I'm betting Ken is taking it better than you flamers are.

What none of you got was the reason for my response. None of could see the humor in the ladies response so I'll post it again: "dozens of law enforcement agencies working on the investigation".

If you believe that then you're a certified (fill in the blank). I thought it was funny. Not the theft. Her statement. So get off your "oh poor Ken" wagon and start some more threads about knives. LOL...you all crack me up with your defense of of "poor Ken". I'm not attacking him and yes, he should get his knives back and I hope they catch the jerks. But keep it in perspective. He's a man and men bounce back even stronger than before.

I new my post would get some action but I thought at least someone would see the humor in her statement and think it funny also. Guess not.

Flame me some more, if you have nothing else better to do.

Love you guys

No offense meant?!!! Are you kidding me?!!!

If $30,000 was stolen from you would you choose to have the cops looking for the culprit or sitting around eating donuts and drinking coffee?

Is that what you think all cops are doing when they're not handling what you deem to be an important case?

I work for a PD, Ken, and I know you work for an FD. What you said is akin to someone saying something like; firefighters just sitting around playing poker. I would never say that, cause I know it ain't true!

Not too cool of a generalization, man!

If $30,000 was stolen from you would you choose to have the cops looking for the culprit or sitting around eating donuts and drinking coffee? That $30,000 puts food on his table and a roof over his head. Knifemaking is his livelihood. If you only knew how much time and effort went into making those knives and how disappointed the intended customers are you would not say such things. The amount that was stolen constitutes grand theft. It is not a crime to be taken lightly. And...if you knew anything about knives at all you'd see that those are carved Ti pocket clips.

I swear. Some people can't see past it only being a stupid knife. They do not see the art and skill required to make such a knife. Not all knives are cheap Chinese made crap. If you chose to buy them so be it. It leaves more customs for me.

I also take personal offense as a knife lover at this theft, AND as someone who apprecited the efforts that went into making those amazing knives in the first place!!!! And I feel horible for Mr. Onion, as I am sure he was counting on the money from the sale! Those were some amazing knives!! I hope to God that the person or persons responsible for the theft are caught and punished!!

TSA **** looking through the bags. They just fired one at IAD for stealing.

Oh, please. Settle down. I don't think that. But bladeprince seems to think that the cops should just disregard Ken's case. Look at who I was responding to and the context in which it was meant....and pass the donuts. ;)

No problem, Ken. I re-read your post, and the whole thread, and now I think I may have been a little too quick to jump on you for that. Sorry, buddy.

Regards,

Oh, man. If that's what you got out of my comment, I suggest you go back to school and take a reading comprehension class. I indicated nothing of the kind. LOL...you crack me up. Sorry I don't have time to explain the subtleties of my comment. I've run out of time for this thread.

This is probably one of the top ten most ignorant posts I have ever read on this forum. That is all I will say here..but a word of advise mr. Prince.as a noob here you should post less and read more..you would learn..that....the knife makers in this community are not loaded with "bread" and this represents a $60,000 dollar loss in cash. ( manufacture value plus profit of sale) I would like to ask you to go two months without a paycheck.

anyway your on the Pirates Cove PT list for your sensitivity...:jerkit:

"Is that what you think all cops are doing when they're not handling what you deem to be an important case?"

I can tell you that Ken waited for about 4 hrs for someone from the Huntington Beach pd to show up. when the idiot showed up the first thing he said to Ken was " i want you to know i'm not going to do an investigation or write a report".

only after some heated discussion and a call to someone higher up in the pd did the asswipe relent and take the knife case into evidence to be fingerprinted.

maybe you're not eating donuts all shift but someone was annoyed that they were called away from winchells.

on another note, Ken can survive the financial hit(there are a lot of knifemakers out there who wouldn't be able to) but if you're thinking that way, you're missing the point entirely.

"I think this really sucks. The knives do look kinda ugly. Onion won't give me the time of day and I still remember him laughing at me at a show. He'll get over it and so will everyone else."

don't feel bad, I'm sure there are people more important than Ken who wouldn't give you the time of day either.

I'll bet Ken it just jumping for joy for all people sticking up for him against that mean old Bladeprince. Get off your high horse. You don't even know what my post was really about and I'm sure not going to waste my time to explain it again, especially to you. But know this: I don't give a spit what you think or about any of your so called advice. But I am curious. What's with that little green self portrait? Are you sure you know what you are doing?

I've met Ken and he is very personable.

What you have to remember at a show is that there are very often eight or ten people vying for the attention of a well-known maker at any one time, two or three of whom may be waving thousands of dollars in cash. So you can't expect that maker to focus on you like the maid at your favorite bar.

I'll be honest with you and say that none of the knives in the picture are something I would buy because they don't have enough handles. BUT, part of being a knife enthusiast is learning to appreciate a broader spectrum. Just because it's not a balisong doesn't mean that I don't admire it. I may not buy it myself, but I can still appreciate it and admire it. (And, since I'm a sucker for MOP, I can certainly admire a couple of those...) I can also appreciate the value of the materials that went into them. Even in these snap-shots, that MOP clearly has a lot of character and life in it; that's not cheap stuff. And there's some beautiful Damascus steel in there too; again, that's not cheap. I can also appreciate the craftsmanship and the time and the skill that went into those knives. So, while they many not be something I would buy, I can still appreciate the knives and the loss.

Scott Dog , I don't even know who you are ! And I have never deliberately snubbed anyone . I have no idea what your talking about but you sir are wrong and bitter for no reason!

Hey Ken, Sorry for your loss Man ! I know it's hard not to take it personal when people that don't really know you say harsh things, you just have to remember that thousands of us appreciate your work, what you have done for Kershaw, and you as a person. Don't let a few greater than though BFers get ya down. Your work is Awesome !! Keep on keepin on !!

Flat grind , I don't know what your trip is either but I will say it again . I would have never turned you away unless you were rude.

Ahhh.....Mr. Onion. I have admired your work for years and possess a number of your production knives. I surely hope your stolen knives are found quickly and returned to your possession in the shortest possible time. I made a comment about "dozens of law enforcement agencies working on the investigation" (made by your representative) which I found a bit humorous because of its apparent exaggeration. It seems that some have taken me for a villain of insensitivity in the middle of your situation. But even though we will never meet or speak, I assure you that my intent was to point out a bit of humor during this time of trouble, not to insinuate that your dilemma was not of a serious nature. I wish you speed in your quest at locating your stolen property and, if not found soon, possibly a sizable insurance claim or at the minimum, speedy hands and artful thoughts in their reproduction.

Regards,
Gary

Skin the thieves from crotch to eyeballs with a dull deer antler!

Exactly bladeprince

Wow, that is a terrible loss for Mr. Onion. I hope it was insured or something...

How much are Ken Onion Taboos and Dead Sexys? Those knives are pure sex. I bet they're more than I can afford, but I can't find any pricing info on them, so I might as well ask here.

Thanks Kershaw guy and the rest of you with your head on straight .I sincerely appreciate your concern and thanks for staying on point Actually the loss was in excess of $50,000. three months of work there is alot of 24 and 18carat gold in them and two of them are thoroughly engraved ! And yes there are over a dozen agencies looking into this because there are thirteen knives in a secure area in an airport somewhere were someone with nefarious intent could do damage with them. It is a national security issue . If they could steal my knives they could also steal a handgun or rifle and really cause problems with Homeland safety The system needs to be fixed and this incident just happened to shed a big spotlight on a hole in the system ,So mr I've gotta laugh, you don't know shit and should not respond to things you don't know and look like a fool later. Besides I have worked my ass off for everything I have so don't minimize the issue it would be a huge loss for anyone. I feel like I just got a huge kick in the guts with this incident and am not going to tollerate you kicking me too so find something a little less personal to humor yourself with.
