Kerry Hampton Knives

Kerry, that's a nice one!

You can exhale now....you're finished cutting those swedges in!

Boy aint that the truth! There was a point where I thought I was going to muff that blade but I was able to pull out of the dive just in time to skim across the tree tops :D I've seen several old spear-point jack blades with deep swedges and I love the look.

I forgot to mention, normally the knives in this size are made with .108" stock and I didn't have any on hand at the time. I decided to make this with .09375(3/32") stock and think it worked fine. I make the khnuts out of 3/32" and they are an 1/8" longer.

You know when you take a whack at the edge of printer paper and you don't really feel it but that little piece of paper flutters to the floor???? It's that sharp. :)

Very nice! (No surprise there.:cool:)

Like everyone else has written, you nailed the swedge. Great looking knife.

Here's a swedge on a Winchester dogleg that is almost as bold as Kerry's:

You'll see this sort of deep swedge on what they used to call "stabber jacks" (though often the swedge is longer on those).

Kerry,

Love your teardrop Jack! Swedges are over the top!
Just wondering, what do you use to cut your long pulls in with?

Ken

Here's the setup for cutting the two types of pulls. I first said that I thought it was a 4" slot cutting saw. It's actually 2 3/4". The first two pix show the saw. The third pic is the fly cutter.

Kerry,

Thanks for the follow up pictures! It is always nice to see other set-ups. I like the plate on top of the holding fixture to align the spine parallel.

Another one almost finished....got a few little touch up things to do on this one but it's done otherwise. 4.5" Bose BackPocket w/drop point blade stamped "0", etched A2, black paper micarta shadow with flush joint. I will take another pic tonight showing a tight shot of the flush joint.

Also, this is my first finished knife with the Wilfred Works stamp. Looks good on there, eh. :D

That one is the cat's meow. The old dawg knows who is worthy of WW's Stamp.
I am so happy for you. May God continue to bless you and your work.
