Kershaw Factory Sale 2013

Sunday PM, last day, dash to cutlery. The last Cryo 1, no Cryo 2 left, no red Knockouts, no mouse pads, hats (I got two) $5 each and the felt sheaths were free so I got five and I don't know why... Love the huge choppa, I had purchased the small one late Friday so buying the big one makes sense, I think, now I need the medium one, the sheath is worth the price by itself.

The line going in, 13 degrees F today, as I left. Guess who's Uhaul that is? Yea, you already know, the best Kershaw vendors (father/son) were in the factory today.

Note: There are no blems in these photos.

Thanks for this, I am truly grateful. I owe ya one. :)

Entirely my pleasure. Don't think for a minute that your service here and that of the other moderators goes without notice. Thank you. You already know but it is not like you are overly compensated for your efforts (I am actually laughing here, with you and not at you of course, as I love this stuff too). Well done. Happy Holidays and robust wishes for a great New Year.

Hopefully someone at the Tualatin shop sees this... I just wanted to say thanks to all those people that work the show. Everyone was so cool, shop guys and gals would just talk you up while you were standing in line or picking through what they had. People were available to answer questions and everyone's demeanor was very cool...Especially cool considering how cold it was and how many people were there! Great customer service and very cool people, wish I could remember names but there were just too many of 'em.
ZT0561BW for me, ZT0350BRN for the wife and she also had me grab the 10" camp!
And yes, there are more than blems there for sure.
AH CRAP! I was going to grab a Shun cutting board...Oh well!

Thanks for the kind words. Accept my apologies for the thread derailment earlier, I hope the message made its way to the appropriate person.

+1

The Kershaw family are some of the finest people I will ever know. Ever.

Thomas, fades into the background with his dull blue apron, short hair and mild manner carries a lot of the water for this local party/extravaganza deserves a round of hearty applause. He has my admiration and gratitude. Well done. You make it look easy. Some day, and that day may never come, you could have a camera crew film the making of the Warehouse Sale: meetings, decisions, votes, budgets, fights, blessings, weather, online pests and saints, spreadsheets, accountants, vendors, contractors, employees, knives, accessories, neighbors, Dave from Ohio (who camps out at the door to be first in line each year) here in the US and around the world.

Oh, I didn't know this thread existed. I go to college nearby but wasn't into knives my first two years here. Last year, I knew about it but had no one to take me. I then found out that a family at my church goes every year when the husband pulls out a new Kershaw saying "I got this for $10 at the factory sale!" I almost died there. So, I made sure I asked them if I could go with them this year.

I went yesterday (Saturday) afternoon. I spent about $150, which is a lot for me (student and all) and I only get to keep an S30V blur (I should probably put quotes around the "only"). I got a couple of Skylines for my roommates, a Needs Work as a gift for a guy I know, an orange Leek for my sister, and a Desert Sand Blur for a man at home I deeply respect. I did take a good long look at the ZT's though. The KAI employee by the aluminum 0350's explained that the anodizing was off on a lot of them, which was evidenced by a range of colors on the brown ones from an almost black dark brown to a light coffee color. I think the Desert Sand Blur I got was off since it looked almost gold.

Regarding the 0566's, I asked about those and he said that there were about 12 of them and they went quickly. I was there when they announced the only 0560 CBCF. I don't know if anyone took it and I wasn't brave enough to ask to see it without intending to buy it (it was a good value, but I still don't have that much change lying around). I enjoyed being able to see a regular 0560 in real life and not just in pics. It really is a large knife (in a beautiful way). I also got to handle a few 0200's and 030x's. I think I kinda like the feel of the 030x's more, though I think I like the blade shape of the 0200 more. It was all kind of too much for my wallet to take. If only money grew on trees... I did also see Thomas and Jen walking around. Thomas is taller and Jen is shorter than I expected.

Now, I'm waiting for a good time to give my roommates their gifts, have to pack up the other gifts for shipping, and then wait for my thumbs to heal from flicking a freshly deassisted Blur (which seems to have a relatively weak detent, though I'm hopeful it won't be jarred in such a way as to come open).

A good time overall. More $$$ might've been a double-edged sword. There's never enough to buy everything that looks nice (which would be... everything).

I think the fact that there are so many blems should clue some people in an exactly how gigantic KAI is and how many knives they make.

KAI probably sold 15-30 knives for every blem at that sale.

I just traded a 561 that I traded into at a local knife shop last month. Second 561 I've owned . Too big for EDC for me, and I've had an SMF, 301, skirmish, rukus, police and a huge gunsite. But I could hold onto a blemish 561 or 560.

Would like to find a blemish 566. That 561 kicked my Insingo out of my pocket for a spell.

The posting of the photos was totally irresponsible.
How so?
I've posted pics other years and no one at Kershaw had any issue. I was asked not to share price info and I was careful to keep prices out of the photo or illegible. And it isn't a strip club with photos of guys walking out.

They don't want photos of work in progress and info leaked and don't like cameras during regular operations. The black plastic up everywhere is also to screen visibility somewhat as well as for customer safety. I saw where plastic was sagging they had some info on a machine about a Leek that I've not seen the model before. I was careful not to get any of that in photos. You'll see more on their page or on the episode of Modern Marvels.

If Kershaw asks or someone is in a photo and asks I'll take it down. Just tell me which ones.

The two Factory Sale Kershaw hats were left out of the previous photos so here they are now. The hats are sized so you buy the one that fits your head. Those are both L/XL for my virtual planetoid noggin. $5 each so I got both to make the purchasing decision easier. A Kershaw Christmas, like many in this neck of the woods, and all is well.

Thank you everyone for posting to this thread. It is really fun for me to see others enjoying the local celebrity knife manufacturer who I've admired and relished for a great many years. WTG Kershaw and wtg members.

Off topic: BTW, that is me in the photo on upper right hanging photo with my head on my older Sister's shoulder. I remember the taking of that photo and the onerous task of not only smiling but of touching my Sister with my head at the same time. Man was I uncooperative but that pic doesn't even hint at that.

I'm just wondering how it's cost effective to create that many blems. No mr revdevil, I'm not trolling.

How do you know that's a lot of blems? Do have any idea how many of their high-volume sales items they produce a month? Even if a very small percentage of a run doesn't pass QC, you can still end up with a big number.

Thanks for sharing the experience Steve. I for one had not seen this level of detail on the KFS before, but it is definitely something on my to do list. One of these years I'll make it up to Oh Ree Gone to visit some friends and see if I am lucky with my timing. I just want to meet Thomas, Jim, Jen, and the rest of the crew, and of course walk out with some of that fine loot and an empty wallet. ;)

Another note about the blems. Both the wife and I picked up XXXX'd knives and there is not visible issue with hers at all. I think the issue with mine was some rub marks on the blade and maybe an asymmetrical edge? Very nit picky though but it goes to show their QC is on point.
Man, I did see a picture of the ZT0801CF on the back wall behind the checkers. I don't know what it was about and didn't ask but I'd love to know more!
