Kershaw has a new award winner - the Speedform

We actually thought about grabbing random screws from the maintenance room and forcing them into the handle, but then thought better, and had them sized for a precision fit. Tried to keep from being too silly...at least with the screw portion.

:D Not exactly what I meant ;)
It's just I think (note this is my sole opinion) the screws doesn't fit all that well. The design is really nice and it's like it breaks it apart. I would have preferred something that blends in the handle a bit more.

It's a superb piece anyways and one that makes me want to take 200$ and lay it on the table right now anyway so it's not a deal breaker at all in any cases ;)

O.

What's the chance that they'll make a lefty version? My guess? None. Just like with the Tirade. I've been pretty disappointed with Kershaw's lack of love for us lefties. A reversible pocket clip does not make it a lefty.

Nice design, though.

That's why they made the RAM. Some would argue that it is a better lefty than a righty.:D

I guess there aren't many companies around making true leftys these days. If you scrounge around you can come up with lefty Kershaws from the late 90's (Randoms, Talons and Starkeys IIRC)

This one looks to be a great knife. Congrats to the Kershaw crew

Ken, there's been a few posts accusing us of lefty hate. I'm afraid this piece won't do anything to change their minds.

If only they spent liked they whined...;)

Maybe I should just buy all of them you can make and no one else will have a chance to even see one first hand. :)

Looking forward to this and the Volt (I like R.J. Martin's stuff).

When will they actually be available to the public?

Weren't the Talon and Starkey Ridge both RH liner locks?

:D:D:D My bank account is whining, all right! ;) But I understand that if producing LH or ambi models just doesn't pan out on the bottom line, then the numbers speak for themselves. I just keep hoping for (and purchasing) ambi designs.

A reversible pocket clip does not make it a lefty.
True. On a sub-$100 knife, my arbitrary cutoff, I've decided to live with other non-LH design elements if: 1. I really like the overall design and 2. the clip is reversible. For example, the Orange Zing was just too cool (and affordable) to pass up. If it didn't have that reversible clip, I would have had to pass.

Lovin' my dobson-scaled R.A.M., BTW...

Congratulations again to Thomas and the great team at Kershaw.

Thomas, will elmax be making it to any lower priced offerings for those of us that are still giving a large portion of their income to Surgeons and various assorted MD's.

It looks like an interesting steel and I'd sure like to make sure I get to try it out. Thanks, Joe

I'm glad it's not AO, because I'd rather do it myself!
It's really a nice smooth looking knife and I like the long slim look myself.

I do like the looks of this knife, however if that pocket clip is made of titanium they will be breaking like mad, not real concerned about tip up or down carry, I will have to have one though.

"Composite blade, CPM-D2 spine, ELMAX (Uddeholm) edge"

Can someone tell me what the point of using D2 for the spine and not the cutting edge would be?

I've always heard titanium wouldn't break, it bends. That's one reason it's so popular for eye-glass frames.

OK, 1 more time. D2 was chosen for the spine b/c

1) It has similar HT properties as the ELMAX (critical for the process working)
2) It etches darker than most steels which is critical to the look of this knife.

Does the clip touch the handle on one of the flats or is it on the peak between the two flats? If it sits on the peak that would be providing a lot less surface area for a clip that looks like it's got a very small contact patch to begin with. Perhaps the clip tension can render that a non-issue, but I'm curious nonetheless.

Very attractive knife, looks extremely pocketable.

It looks superb.
I was a bit surprised that the end of the framelock cut doesn't end in a small circle hole, which should be better for longevity. The framelock cut just stops, which looks good but I wonder if during heavy use the cut can become longer because of lack of a hole (tension in the steel is a lot higher at the end of a slit, than if you end in a circular hole, and that's why if you have a material that splits, then drilling a small hole at the end of the tear typically prevents the tear from becoming bigger).
