Kershaw has a new award winner - the Speedform

Here's a picture that Google turned up:

Being a HUGE Ken Onion fan, I'm not a huge fan yet of the Speedform's aesthetics, but I like the looks of the Volt. Can't wait for that one!

From what I can find, the Bohler *M390 Microclean has a very fine grain structure. C 1.90, Si 0.70, Mn 0.30, Cr 20.00, Mo 1.00, V 4.00 and W 0.60.

The composition is really very close to Duratech 20CV, used on the Hinder XM18, the SOG team leader etc. It's around the same class as S30V, with wear resistance a bit better than D2, BG42, 154cm/ATS34, Etc.

Duratech 20CV : http://www.latrobesteel.com/assets/documents/datasheets/DuraTech_20CV.pdf

Elmax is nothing to sneeze at too. I can't wait to try these.

ELMAX
Carbon, C 1.70 %
Chromium, Cr 18.0 %
Manganese, Mn 0.30 %
Molybdenum, M 1.0 %
Silicon, Si 0.80 %
Vanadium, V 3.0 %

These are good quality steels, definitely premium, well made and clean. They should gain their share of fans, IMO. I hope Thomas finds other projects to use these in. We haven't had a boutique run in a while that got us foaming at the mouth, and looking into selling our children to purchase.

* note: I changed the steel to what I thought was correct.

Thanks for the plug JC.

Yes the Speedform did win the American Made Knife of the Year for 09.

Hopefully delivery will begin in 90-120 days. We will try to incorporate tip up/down capabilities.

Be fitting to its name, will it have branch as SpeedSafe ver afterward?
And I wish the clip w/ Tip-Up could be made as low-riding....

^Pretty sure he's asking if there will be a spring assist version released after the initial non-assisted offering.

Of course, that will depend on a lot of things.

It does sound like that.
I guess "branch" might mean flipper?
But seeing as it's going to be a limited production, I don't see it being converted to Speedsafe after the run.

Thanks for enderwiggin's mention is totally right, actually I'm just considering to get two on Speedsafe and manual open respectively.

And....Its tip down only.

Too bad. Nice looking knife.

Not too bad, lovely. :) I know I'm the minority when I say I prefer tip down carry on my folders, part of the reason I love the Military so much.

Still an excellent looking knife. One of the first Kershaw designs that really strikes me as something I think I'd like quite a bit.

First time I've seen this, but wow, the Speedform looks amazing. I usually hate composite blades too because of the "squiggly", but this looks great.
