Kershaw Knives News Thread

hey Thomas W. If i go to a knife show and get a couple of keshaws, could i send them in to you guys to get them sharpened and looked at to make sure all is ok? the reason i ask is because of them switching owners, i know the original owner can do that. thanks

Anybody get a Kershaw Lahar yet? I am really interested in this one. Made in Japan (I think), VG-10!!!!, G-10 scales, manual flipper. Seems like the perfect knife for me.

No problem offset.

kindred, the first 300 Lahar's will be hitting the market (and are made in Japan) over the next 10-14 days. The Lahar will be a bit limited in its availability, with an average of 200/300 pieces a month shipping out. May be a tough one to regularly find.

Hey Thomas,

Just wanted to let you know that I got the torsion bars for my MiniCyclone. I was a little bummed when the original broke but within a week I had 4 new ones arrive in an envelope. I think that your good deeds on this forum really help you company out and sell a good deal of knives for you guys, they should really give you a raise for that :) Anyway you customer service is unparalleled anywhere. Thanks

I'll second that. In fact, watching the way Thomas has handled this thread, has played a large part in my now collecting Kershaw instead of Spyderco. Of course, the fact that Kershaw make a quality product helps too.

Keep up the good work, Thomas, and if you ever find yourself frustrated, remember the salesman's credo, 'Illegitimus Non Carborundum'. ;)

Are there any pictures out there of the NRGs or the Lahars, besides the ones from the current Kershaw catalog. I'd really like to see the "extended tang" on the NRG and what it looks like folded. While I'm at it, a shot with a harder, more directional light to get a better idea of the relief and texture on the scales would be great.

wtf thomas-you didnt have to send a replacement zdp mini next day -
granted i was tweeked a bit about the service guy sending the bad one back -

anywhoo-

for those that care-the april zdp mini cyclone is a bit different than the march made ones-first off they added on/off writing for the speed safe switch, secondly they appear to have changed the ti finish with a heavier blast-its way more grippy in your hands with the new finish compared to the old-

rosconey, you're welcome. Just trying to be a ray of sunshine in rosconey world.

No images today kneedeep, the Lahar shouldn't be but another 7-10 days and then we will have actual knives (instead of proto's) to get images from.

The NRG's is still a ways out. Production could have changes from the current proto's floating around. I'll keep you posted. We are hoping for June/July delivery.

I'll let you all know as we get closer.

Thomas - If the NRGs are still open to design modifications, would Kershaw consider solid G10 scales instead of having inserts? I prefer the feel of G10 over the TracTec inserts, plus I think it would look cleaner with an unbroken slab of G10. Maybe two versions??? :)

Thomas - how good are the ZT knives, I like the description on the website but those can always be a bit over the top.

Thomas any more word on the possible rainbow groove. I got a groove a few weeks back and love it. If the rainbow groove comes out would it have the G10 on the handle?

I have the ZT0200, ZT0301, and the ZT0400. They are all very different knives and I would bet my life on any of them. I would have a hard time picking a favorite, but they each have their advantages: The 0400 has a smaller handle that crowds the pocket less. The 0301 has a blade wide enough to bury your mother-inlaw with and the Titainium frame lock is the best. The 0200 may be the best all around knife. The lack of A/O is a plus for those who worry about gizmo failure. The frame is really thick, probably aluminum 1/16" and locks up really well.
Which knife is best for you? I have no idea. I can tell you that you will get exactly what is described and pictured and that you will not be disappointed. I have not found any place that sells these knives at a discount (except by individuals on this site), but even paying full price I am pleasently surprized. They are a lot of knife for the money.
p.s. read the reveiws on this site.

Jnak, yes there will be a Rainbow Groove. We are producing 500 peices for a larger customer. They are scheduled for the end of May. Pretty wild look with the striations.

spikefood, personally I think they are really sweet, but as aa noted, do a search and read some reviews, I believe you will be impressed.

I was blown away by the zt0301 when I first handled it. I was looking for a tough pseudo-fixed folder to replace/augment my Rukus. Even though it's extremely pricey retail I went home from the knife shop determined to buy one. It should arrive in a few days :)

Re: reviews of the zt0301/zt lineup, I wasn't able to find a lot of qualitative reviews. Quite a few positive, hands on, "wotta knife" impressions but nothing as in-depth as I'd expect for a knife of this caliber. I'd like to review it once I get it, specifically I was thinking of doing a sort of youtube video review like the other Kershaw video reviews that are up.

I read somewhere on BF about the 200's liner being as strong as the ti 300, due to the strengths of thick steel vs. ti. Possibly it was from Vassilli, but I cannot seem to dig it up.

I was initially worried about the AO gadgety business on this heavy blade, but in doing research prior to buying I came across this kershaw thread and Thomas W/Kershaw's customer care. If it does break, I'm not worried about it at all. I would say that he is the reason that I'm getting the zt0301, but he's not. He's the reason I'm getting a zt0301 and attempting to justify a zdp leek next. Hell, even considering a non axis lock folder is strange for me. :)
 Thomas (also, kershaw mfgr forum bandwagon)
