Kershaw Knives News Thread

My zt0301 just arrived in the mail and I'm curious: does the torsion bar "rattle" for anyone else? I took it all apart (beautiful and simple!) and it looks fine, but with the blade fully open it definitely rattles around in there. Do I already need new torsion bars?

Thanks!

Yea they all rattle

The Blur jumped out of my hand a few times! It really earns its name! My Boron Leek, with its friction-less coating, is still the fastest Kershaw I own.

I think the Offset and ZT0301 both fly open. The momentum of the large blade can be pretty intense. Me Likee.

You mentioned Militec, do you recomend it? I've been using Benchmade's Blue Lube. Any suggestions?
I was under the impression that BM used Militec, and that blue lube was repackaged Militec but in googling for backup I appear to be wrong.

I've never used Blue Lube, and use Militec on everything. I follow the application instructions with a hairdryer and patience. It seems to work well for my auto, AO(s) and anti-corrosion needs. I'd be interested in hearing from others if Blue Lube or anything else is better.

hey guys. well i went to the knife show (my first one :D) and it was awsome. i winded up buying a blur for $45. it has like 4 x's on the one side of the blade. im guessing a factory second or, as the guy said there, end of year sale thingy. which is it thomas? im going to send it in to kershaw 4 a checkup (make sure all is well and its still really sharp) in a couple of weeks. the only thing i have on it, and it isnt a big thing, is that the blade touches one side of the handle when closed. doesnt affect it or anything when it comes to opening or closing, and there apears to be no play what so ever. my left hand is hairless now lol. so it is niiice and sharp. actually i do have one other thing with it. the thumb studs. those things hurt when you open it alot!:grumpy: the only thing i would change. over all i think i opened it about 200 times today and am very pleased. if thomas would be so abliged to answer that on question, i would be happy. im going to another show in june up in dayton ohio, so i am happier.

what is the fastest, hardest opening AO from kershaw?

yeah blur. definatly the blur. until i get the offset i will have to say the blur. i showed it to to some of my friends today. i scared them a bit at how fast it was. they then proceded to open it themselves :)

It is a factory second, not a sale thingy. My factory second Kershaw knives are indistiguishable from retail knives, other than the XXXX. Kershaw has so many quality checks and standards, that any error may not be noticeable.

yeah i figured as much. thanks for the clarification. still going to send it in to be looked at. im happy with it. so, jeremy, what did you think of the reasons i sent you regarding star wars? lol (sry if thats off topic, but hey, they use vibro-blades!!!)

You might want to check in with Thomas W. I know he ok'd sending in your gun show purchases, but factory seconds might have a different warranty. For what it's worth the xxxx kershaw's that I've handled have been fine, and if the knife is already shaving sharp I don't know how much more they can do for you.

Speaking of factory sharpening, I handled a jyd2 last weekend and it made me realize I had never experienced truly hair-popping sharp. In both hair directions, above the skin, the jyd2 literally popped the hairs off. They flew off like they were afraid of the edge.

I've been reevaluating my Arkansas stone skills since. :)

yeah. im just waiting for thomas to reply to this thread. im happy with it. just want to see what he says

Well offsetlover, the factory 2nd's do not carry a warranty when purchased (thus the nice price you get on them). Once they leave the factory, we are pretty much done with them.

ok that works. i do have 3 questions though for you thomas. the first is, whar kind of bit do you guys use for the blur's pivot screw? the blade is a bit close to one side and i would like to make it a bit more in the center. second question is, could i still send it in to be sharpened or is it out of warranty? and third, could i send it in and get it switched out with a factory second with the new blade steel? that would be cool, but i wouldnt doubt that the precentage of that happening is like 0%-1%.

on a funny note. on the side of the blade it says "snap-on". i thought that was funny considering it is AO

S30V feels the same as the regular Blur, but with better steel. The G-10 leek is sweet, I would go with the 1660CGT versus the 1660G10. The blade on the CGT is more of a polished steel and I am not a fan of the stonewash finish on the 1660G10.

And on Sr.'s birthday no less! I can almost envision you throwing a can of Bud! Love that #24 car!!

Send your knife to me offset, I'll take care of you.

Ya'll post so fast! Just as soon as I say Kershaw won't do it, Thomas chimes in. And in a generous mood. Hey Thomas, I got some XXXX Leeks and Cyclones, can I send you those and have you exchange the 440 with some spare ZDP? :D
