interesting thread, it had almost everything :)

trolls, geo-politics, "evil corporations", hot knives, grammar police and it even almost turned into a flame war!

Looking forward to the new lineup from Kershaw :)

No, he actually meant to say exactly what he did say, using the casual construction of colloquial speech. "Correct" is an interesting term, but in the linguistic sense it can only apply to formal discourse.

Notice too that Tostig is a Californian, not a Canadian. Some solecisms are taken more seriously in certain areas than in others.

How is somebody outside of North America supposed to know that when somebody says "I could care less" they actually mean "I couldn't care less"? Why would we excuse something so blatantly incorrect just because it is widespread?

Pretty soon people will think that other common mistakes like "intensive purposes" and "so, fice to say" are actually correct.

It's called "language", Either you speak it, or you don't. Speaking a language requires a current knowledge of that language on its different levels: formal, colloquial, slang, technical, jargon, they are all part of a constantly shifting mix.

Much of what is taken as "correct" in English is actually borrowed from Classical Latin, a social dialect with a much more archaic structure than English which is commonly consequently a poor fit. Colloquial, or Vulgar Latin, showed many of the liberties found in modern colloquial English, including the adoption of often temporary terminology.

I'll freely admit that I haven't read each and every post.

But I will not hold Kershaw the enemy for making stuff in China.

I got a second Vapor when I found Japan on the first. But I got a Vapor II that came from China and tere is nothing wrong with it.

I pretty much HAVE to buy cheap. If the stuff comes as good as my Vapor II it's all good.

Kershaw is probably the last company one should attack for its imports, when it makes so much stuff here in the US. They are in a tough spot, to compete with other companies that import Chinese made knives they pretty much have to import the Chinese stuff too. That way they get the first time buyers ect. to at least try their brand and then when they come back with more funds later they can buy their higher end models made in the US. My only concern is that they keep the quality up on their Chinese produced goods so that one or two junky models don't soil their name. People aren't real smart and if they buy one junky knife from a company, they will often paint the whole product line as junk, even though that is wrong. Its very complex in a world market. I really do respect Japanese workmanship though, so I will be a little disappointed if Kershaw goes to just US and China production, but maybe they have to if Japan labor costs are just too high.

I agree with Marlinaholic. Kershaw make a great deal of it's products here in the US and I'm sure will continue to do so.

I bought a Kershaw Blur 1670S30V with a Made in the USA stamp on the blade.......the rockwell hardness is 53 on the "c" scale.....that's not saying much for heat treating qualities in MHO. Is this common in all their S30V blades?

Where did you get this info? Or did you actually test your blade?

Ahh..fun thread all around, from our overseas products to S30V RC issue.

RC on our S30V currently runs 58-59.

Please send it to our Warranty Dept. if you feel the HT is off.

Where do I ship my knife for warranty service?

Please ship your knife, along with a note describing desired service to:

Kai USA ltd., Kershaw Knives
WARRANTY DEPARTMENT

Tualatin, OR 97062

Charley, the address and phone number are on both the box insert info, and on Kershaws website.

You're a knifemaker. I assume you have a tester. Where on the blade did you get the reading? I'm curious. I've had nothing but great luck with my Kershaw knives. Indeed I have the same knife and it's great.

Anything is possible I guess, but a RC of 53 would be extremely rare. If you weren't a knifemaker and had access to testing equipment I'd have a problem with this story, to be honest. Joe

Just looked at it and I see the "dent" from the test located about 3/16" up from the edge and 1/4" from tip of blade.

For an accurate reading you need to test it on a blades flat surface. Try again by the Blur's thumb stud.

OK, just got back from the shop and after tearing it down completely and checking the hardness next to the thumb screw, it read 58RC (average 3 readings). So I stand corrected and apoligize for the mistake. You are right as to checking on a flat surface .
Charley

58RC is within specs. The W&R people would have taken care of you if there was a problem. They go out of their way to make people happy. Other companies could do well to copy Kershaws service.

Glad your knife was more than 53Rc though. Joe

Glad to hear that your knife was in spec. It must be nice to have the right tools at your disposal.

I concur Mastiff, the customer service from Kershaw is above and beyond what I've seen from any other company of any sort. There was an example just recently here in General Link.

Yeah, 53 just didn't sound right. Not from Kershaw.

Glad it got sorted out.

Based on my limited experience, I agree, that would be too big a mistake to slip thru their QC.

I think it would be a riot if warranty addy was in China. Sorry, had to do that... I love my Kershaw a/o Cyclone. It broke my trend of traditional slippies into modern tactical folders and a/o's. It handled the volcanic pumice of Mammoth Lakes CA quite well, and still flips open like a champ. If Kershaw wants to stay strong by having multi level price points, then so be it. Benchmade does it too. Kershaw is a fine name brand in my eyes. It is also amazing how much Thomas W looks like Robert Deniro! The similarities are frightening.
