Seagall's first 3 or 4 movies were pretty good.

Let's not go comparing Chuck Norris to him. Yes, Chuck Norris is pretty old, but he's in better shape than most people of any age. Also, his competition history is well known (not mystical like Seagall or murky like Van Damme). That "semi contact" type of karate tournament was about as rough as it got back then before full contact kick boxing and MMA.

Norris also is a black belt in jiu jitsu under the Machados.

Yeah bustin on Norris is a bias I have. Back in the early 90's I was in Orlando at the world martial arts exhibit and met lot's of wonderfull guys. Got to shake hands with Bill Wallace and talk shop with a bunch of guys. Then Norris comes out like the Pope with a ring body gaurds smiling and waving like the Queen of England. No the Queen does not sign autugraphs.

The Rotund One purchased a house here a while back so is something of a local. I've met him a couple of times and my impression is that he is a egotisical arse......... Despite being a tool, the guy is a seriously talented Akido stylist, at least he was before he ate O-Sensei's surviving family deep fried in grease for an appetizer.

Back on topic, I handled one of the early knives, and was not impressed. Poor fit and finish, the blade had fairly serious play, and the "ray skin" felt like plastic and was very uneven. I'm usually a fan of Kershaw and Onion's work, but I passed on this one.

1.ROTFLMFAO, the O-Sensei comment was extremely funny.

2.Every knife company puts out a stinker once in a while. I know Ken was VERY into this project, and thought that Segal was cool. What are ya gonna do?

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Black Tiger, this thread is about the Kershaw Steven Seagal knife. It is not about your opinions of other people posting in this thread, or your personal history, or about the Fred Carter Defender -- although you could start a new thread about that knife.
I was merely finishing what others started.

I will say a judge may look at it strictly as a weapon, though, because a recurved blade really has no other realistic use, IMO. Plus, the Seagal is/was advertised as a "defensive"(read: "offensive" by lawyers) knife, endorsed by the "king of all martial arts". Or at least he was until he ate Marlon Brando....

Are you serious?

If they serve no purpose other than fighting, then how come Buck/Mayo cutback and hilo cut so well? How come the Spyderco cricket and dodo cut so well? None of those are even close to a fighting knife. I'll tell you why they cut well: becuase curved blades help you to CUT, and seeing as cutting is the purpose of knives in general, That leds me, IMHO, to think that recurved blades actualy serve a purpose. ;)

One more time, for those who missed my truce with the members of this forum, I'll apologize for that "mud-slinging" crap that went on between myself and some of the members on this thread. Like I said, I wouldn't have said one word if some people hadn't made those unnecessary assumed comments about my educational background....You come at me, I come back at you!!! And for the record, I don't think I'm the smartest, greatest thing since Jesus, but bottom-line, I am a professional like it or not...or believe it or not!!!:D

Honestly,
The Ken Onion/Seagal knife needs to be looked at for just what it is....a liner-lock, fighting knife with the co-designer's signature etched on the blade.

I just recently got one, and I personally like it. I mean, I agree....the idea of inserting ray-skin into the handle was a stretch, and certainly doesn't fit as well as black glass-filled nylon inserts.

However, the ray-skin concept was Seagal's...wanting, of course, to add traditional Japanese flair to the knife....but, ultimatley....the blame has to go on Ken Onion.

Now, as far as etching on the blade...well, it's a matter of opinion....

I mean, if we're going to attack Ken Onion's choice of putting his co-designer's signature on the blade....well, we better start going after Gerber's Col. Rex Applegate series or United Cutlery's Gil Hibben....or maybe even one of Spyderco's knife makers: Bill Moran!!!

The list goes on and on.................

Hey Rat,
Did I strike a nerve??? Hate cops?....had many run-ins with the law? Your comments are indicative of those who hate authority figures!!! Also, do you always accuse everyone who has surpassed your achievements in life as liars???!!! Later days, Rat :jerkit:

No, its just that this is blade forums, and unpopular opinions are not welcome. :jerkit:

Confusious say: "He who have under 100 post, is as a Carp in a school of pirahna."

Eventualy you will wither yield to our ways and run with the wolf pack, or you will be devoured and banned/chased away from the forums. Thus is life on the harsh plains of cyberspace.

I know nothing of the knife, but I'm sorry-just the sound of Steven Seagal's name conjures up images of Will Sasso on MAD TV running around in a ninja suit snapping people's necks. Humor is soooo much more preferable than all this bickering....

But then, I am under a 100 posts.

Still don't get it.

It's quality not quantity.

Thanks be to Rat, Mr trooper, Gfarrell3, and the others who have once again split my side.

:D

Entertaining as always.

I personally love the knife, Kershaw has made better since so, it now get less attention from me but it fits nicely with the others in the collection
