Kill Shots (For the predators)

This thread has sealed the deal. The night that my ESEE 6 gets in I am taking it Hog Doggin with me and I will post pictures the next morning!!

Edit...Went with the 5 instead. Still big enough to get to the heart!

We've got hunters using the 6 with the sharpened back edge just for that purpose. They chase the hogs down with dogs and jump them with the 6. I'd have to drink a lot fo Tequila to do that but it is being done. Be sure to post photos / video so can piss off some more folks and more of our knives will be in the exchange for sale.

I used my recently acquired Izula-II on a doe I took New Years Eve.
-Field dressing
-Skinning
-Meat harvesting

I also had my ESEE-3 with me and didn't end up using it. For me (size large gloves) the Izula-II was the perfect length for field dressing and skinning.
Field Dressing:
I was able to hold the knife in my palm and hold my index and middle fingers over the tip of the blade. This allowed me to unzip the doe without puncturing any of the organs. Personally, I think the 3 would have been just a bit too big for this task.
Skinning:
Once again, the size of the Izula-II was perfect for this task. The curvature of the spine fits my hand nicely and allows me to easily manipulate the blade. This makes separating the skin from the meat without cutting into the meat an easy task.
Meat Harvesting:
The Izula-II was a bit small for this task and since we were back in the garage, I switched over to dedicated butchering tools.

Sorry for the lack of pics, my buddy and I were hurrying to get this deer processed so that our ladies didn't turn the hunters into the hunted.:D

ETA: Here is a pic from my phone:

I gutted and skinned this buck with an Izula. I prefer a smaller knife for this work and the Izula blade shape is perfect for it.

And just for the hell of it. An old axe I just finished up.

If you ever want to go on a hunt we will take you!! Best night of hunting you can imagine!!

Where is KY with the pictures of that moose he took and skinned out with an Izula? I think that is pretty crazy hunting right there. I love moose jerky, so I may have to give it a try some time.

MHILL, Is that rifle a GAP, with a Nightforce scope on it? Nice pictures by the way.

Everyone, its nice to see this kind of thread, of knives being used as they were meant to be, instead of glamour shots. This thread should become a sticky!

My deer from this year. I don't have any pics of it, but my 3 did almost all the processing from start to finish on this buck. I usually hunt and do all the processing by myself so it's a bit difficult to get pictures. The 3 is my favorite game processing blade, just seems to handle best. I always try at least one other knife on a deer every year, but the 3 got the nod big time this year.

Usually I only hunt for meat but this guy walked by this year and it was about time I had one real to my credit. Shot him with the good old .30-30 at 20 yards.

Maybe next time around I'll get some processing pics as well.

It's not a GAP, I just painted it in GAP camo. It was a fun project. The rifle was built by a custom maker here in Washington State. His name is Dennis Brush.

It's built on a Rem 700 LA trued and squared in 30-06 caliber
Fluted bolt w/ oversized bolt knob
Oversized recoil lug
Rock Creek Barrel = #4 contour, 1-11.25 twist, finished at 24"
HP Precision stock pillar bedded
Old style Rem 700 trigger (3lbs) & BDL bottom metal
Nightforce scope

icybluesmile, I like all the hunting groupies and the Wall of Shame. :D

I'm with you. I'm headed down to Alabama in a couple of weeks to hunt, and I'm carrying my Izula II with me. Seems just about perfect to me.

Anybody shot the Hornaday LEVERevolution ammo? I'm thinking about trying that stuff in my .30-30 this trip.

I shoot the Leverevolution out of my Henry Golden Boy .45 and I think it is some the best loads around.

When I see threads like this, I always like to share information with my hunting brethren. Not only do I love to hunt, I hunt to live as well. I also grow a large organic garden, where I grow all sort's of good grub. I see so much waste all the time from people who dump carcasses down here at the river by my house and like to plant ideas into people's heads when I get a chance too. Everyone is aware that Pork Hambones/Neck Bones go good in soups and beans. Those Deer bones do just as good if not better than hambones. I just ate some Purple Hull Peas and ButterBeans for dinner and why it's fresh on my mind. Give it a try my friends, you won't throw them bones away anymore after you do. I use the front shoulder bones, hindquarter bones, rib and neck bones of Deer and Hog :D

I have used some of the Hornaday stuff. I don't think it puts deer down any faster than the Remington 170gr Cor-Lokts that are my usual ammo. I'm sure it shoots flatter but I rarely shoot at anything over 150 yards anyway, and at that distance as long as you know the ballistics well enough it's no big issue. I've never shot at a deer over about 70 yards, and that's out here where open fields rule! Last 3 deer have been 30 yards or less.

MHILL, Nice set up. 06s are a damned good all around cartridge, you can load them to go to 1k to pigs, anything you want them to do, they can and will. I have an hs on a 5r 308win I bought last spring, for an factory stock its a damned good stock after I did some mods on it myself.

Should really think about this when I am skinning deer. Never think to take pictures or anything, too much adrenaline I just want to get it done and eating some of it, and putting the rest in the freezer.

Oh well, nice deer everyone!

I clicked on the link for this thread by accident and just saw good the Izulu is for skinning game.

Weird thing: Just ordered one yesterday and now looking forward to getting it.

Very cool thread.

Yall keep an eye on the exchange after this thread. Someone's feeling always gets hurt when animal blood shows up on an ESEE knife.

i don't deny that cleaning game is something i need to invest some time in before i find myself "learning on the job". even still, i don't understand why someone would purchase a "survival" knife if they aren't even ok with the idea that someone, somewhere, might just be using them in the way they were intended.
