Kill Shots (For the predators)

I killed 134 pigs last year and didn't eat a one. Hopefully next year will be an even better year. I've got a new .204 just waiting for some pig blood.
Those damn whistle pigs are a menace around here;)

we butcher all the wild hogs we shoot and what we cant eat we give to a family in town that really needs it....don't get me wrong...we aint saints...problem here is the coyotes are almost as bad as the hogs....leave a bunch of hog bodies laying around the coyotes will get even worse....

This reminds me a lot of Red Dead Redemption......the wolves and cougars get crazy if you kill an animal and leave it dead in the area.......even after you skin it they get all nuts!

Reluctant to post this…on another forum this was like throwing shit into the fan with a certain group of people and started heated arguments. But here it is anyways

For the record she was trapped (as you may have seen the marks on her front left paw) and was actually taken out with a 22lr pistol...she dropped painless like a rock on Christmas Day 2009 in West Texas part of sanctioned predator eradication program for local cattle ranchers

I was wondering what that was on her paw. Poor kitty. It's always sad when the cute ones die. :(

I don't really have a problem with people killing animals though. Trapping is kind of cruel, and I have a problem with the way some animals are killed, but I'm really not concerned with it to the extent that PETA is. As far as I'm concerned, as long as you're cleanly killing an animal and not torturing it or setting it on fire or something, it's all good to me. Pest control, furrs, trophy hunting, food, or just to go shoot some things... I do think that's slightly morbid, but whatever, I don't really see how trophy shooting is any different and that appeals to me so who am I to judge. I learned a long time ago that I don't like to kill animals though.

I admire being able to hunt and process game though. It's got to take one hell of a stomach. I've had the opportunity to hunt deer before, but I was one of those people that just found they couldn't pull the trigger, and then I found I was a pansy watching my friends cut up theirs. Then again I never even liked bisecting frogs in biology, so I don't really know what I was doing there. Oddly enough I can fish though... I still wince a little seeing the hooks in their mouths though. I guess I'm just soft hearted. :P

I also found out deer is tasty on that trip though, so all is fair. I guess I just have to have my cake and eat it too. I do plan to learn to hunt one day though. Just something on my list of, "Basic stuff every person should know." The way I see it, people that don't hunt just can't overcome the emotional side of killing an animal, and the ones that say having that emotion somehow proves killing animals is wrong are just too wrapped up in the emotional side of it to think logically. So if I have kids, I'm going to learn to hunt and process game, and teach it to them young so they won't have this big aversion to it that I do and to pass the skill along, because as much as people like to take modern civilization for granted, there are certain invaluable skills in this world that I think people should have that are slowly being bred out of society, and hunting is way up there on that list.

So yeah, rock on hunters. Keep on huntin', and maybe someday I'll take some kind of seminar and learn how to do it.

dude, don't sweat any shit anyone gives you over this...some people will never understand that if you don't regulate the predators they will overtake the area and throw the ecosystem there out of order....by regulating the predator to prey ratio you keep everything in balance.

Indeed and +1 !!!

Hey, if a predator (of any kind) is taking out someone's way of living, I couldn't give the first damn about how "protected" it's suppose to be. I think big cats are amazing and would never never think about shooting one around here. Wished they were around here to take out some of the freakin' deer. With that said, if they ever started taking out livestock that I owned, screw the trapping and relocating thing - they just made the Jeff Randall list of assassinations to be performed.

So we are giving the pups a rest this weekend, but I am taking my bow and my 5 out right now. Hope to have pictures of a blood covered ESEE by the end of the day.

Here piggy piggie.

Trap and relocate...

I never like to see animals suffer and I believe in a quick humane kill.

Not sure about bears but Mountain lions in Utah can take out over 40 head of deer a week. As a deer hunter, I don't like that they are thinning my hunting stock. I think every deer tag should come with an optional Lion tag as well.

Exactly! They are an apex predator and have to be kept in check. It was a different story when the majority of the country was teeming with game, but now that game is much less available, the apex predators must be kept in check by humans since it was humans who developed the land and caused the decrease in prey animals for them to feed on.

What a bunch of awesome pics guys. All a bunch of great looking deer. I always knew a 3 would probably be a good knife to do some dressing.

As I just recently joined the RAT pack I have no pictures of my ESEE's in action but for what it's worth I think these pictures add to the thread, this is my brother's deer this year
